Vegetarian suggestions for several European cities

Hello,
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
I am going to Venice, Paris, London and Edinburgh in the end of January with a friend who is vegetarian. She does eat dairy and some seafood.

I love having meals as part of my travel experience. I have no qualms about eating vegetarian too, but interested in places that may have a bit of each.

Venice- We are doing a cichetti tour one night when we can incorporate some vegetarian delights but I would like another restaurant suggestion. We are staying just outside St. Marks but willing to wander. I’ve googled a few places but wondering if anyone has some first hand experience?

Paris- We have a good food tour in Montmartre and I suggested vegetarian and they were quite responsive. Any other vegetarian restaurants in Les Marais. Looking for some great French onion soup!

London- all set! I found this amazing place called “Clipstone” in Fitzrovia where our B and B is. It looks amazing. Also going to the Tandoor Chop house amazing Indian Restaurant the night before. Right around the corner from the National Gallery to see an art exhibit. Cauliflower dishes look incredible! Any feedback welcomed.

Last- Edinburgh. I am so excited for Edinburgh as I have never been here. I guess Haggis is off the menu. Ha! Haven’t begun research here but looking for suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I should probably mention that we want memorable places with atmosphere and good food. We are trying to go cheap but willing to splurge for dinner if it is good. All recommends welcome.

Looking for Pubs/Bacari too in each city. For before or after drinks.

This post seems so indulgent but trying to make a memorable trip for my buddy. Thanks all!

You know when it’s a “girls trip” you need those extra special touches. Thanks to everyone that gave us insight to the Paris flea market too! Thanks in advance for any more advice about the vegetarian restaurants.

We are vegetarian and have two Paris mainstays: Miznon (Middle Eastern food) and Tien Hiang (vegan Asian food). Also, just a heads up that French onion soup is made with beef stock and is not vegetarian.

Well, I had vegan haggis in Edinburgh a few years ago, lol!! It was at Loudon’s in Fountainbridge.

The falafel restaurants in the Marais are wonderful! I particularly like Mi-va-mi on Rue des Rosiers. It is across the street from a more famous falafel place called L’As du Fallafel but I like the mix at Mi-va-mi better.

As mentioned French Onion Soup is beef broth based.

You can also use the app Happy Cow to find veg restaurants.

Thank you! The comments about the Marais are particularly helpful as that is where we are staying…

few years back we were venice for a greek island cruise. did a meet up with fellow cruisers from cruisecritic.com and we all (12 of us) met at bacarojazz.it. (S. Marco 5546 30124 venezia, VE) it's near harley davidson store and ponte de l'ogio bridge.
we just had cocktails and snacks, didn't have dinner. it was a funky/quirky bar that had lots and lots of bras hanging from the ceiling. since we knew about this, we bought a 50EEE purple bra and decorated with rhinestone embellishments and hung it up on the rafters/ceiling. so so funny with our new friends from cruise and enjoyed the evening laughing.
went to ristorante da nino (santa croce 565, 30135 venice) across grande canal from train station.
sat outside under umbrellas people watching having prosecco and 2 slices of the best tiramisu, enjoyed my time there. staff was great and friendly.
in paris we went to la cuisine de philippe (25 rue servadoni 75006 paris) for souffles, i was on a "mission" hard to find souffles, behind luxembourg gardens. it's a small hole in the wall, red exterior but so cozy. we arrived at noon, no reservation but took us in, best to reserve. had a yummy passion fruit one, friend had a grand marnier one and bottle left at table to add more plus a bottle of wine. i was so contented. always look at days/hours open, many restaurants close at 2pm and open again 6 or 7pm.
la maison rose (2 rue de l abreuvoir 75016 paris) below montmarte, can't miss it it's a pink house (closed until january 30 2023. another few years ago before covid. don't know how much things have changed
another mission i was on, they had the best french onion soup and i tried it at a few restaurants.
ladeuxmagots.fr (6place saint germain des pres 75006 paris) (two chinese figurines)
we sat outside under tarp, street musicians playing jazz at street corner, take a walk thru restaurant lobby and see the gorgeous history of this place. we ordered a charcuterie platter and of course and eclair, not the best was dry. so much on the menu to please you all.
cafe de flore (172 bd saint germain 75006 paris)
gorgeous corner cafe with many flowers decorating up the walls, sit and have glass of wine, french onion soup, croissant and people watch, nice place to watch what's going on.
restaurant le coq (2 pl. du trocadero et du novembre 75116 paris) after ride up eiffel tower took taxi up here to see the view and had the olympic rings displayed. sat ouside with appetizer platter and bottle of wine with my friends daughter and friend who hadn't been to paris before. was so much fun then back to apartment in a pedicab we saw on the street.
if going up eiffel tower, reserve ahead of time. (toureiffel.paris)
we also bought a bottle of champagne, we always carry a corkscrew, with "plastic glasses" and celebrated at champs de mars park
breizh cafe le marais (109 rue vieille du temple 75003 paris)
had sweet and savory crepes. was so so good. so many different places to enjoy all good food around
hope this helps you out with some suggestions. when are you planning this trip and how many days in paris and venice. go have fun and enjoy
aloha

We are going the end of January, so probably won’t get “outdoor” cafe time but will stay cozy indoors.
These suggestions are great!

VENICE
another exciting thing we did was a gondola ride. we used the singing gondolier luca. ([email protected])
we emailed him and set up date, met at the jewish ghetto and off we went thru the back canals, learning his history and things about venice. we also brought a bottle of prosecco or wine & plastic glasses to celebrate 4 friends having a great time. he later sang to us "YEAH" and took a short ride across the grand canal, it's so so busy with all the other boats, like the hiway. cost was about 70E+ daytime, nighttime is more.
take a stroll thru the canareggio area, the back canals, people living in the area, shops, restaurants, bars. we stopped at a small place that man makes his own wine and sells it, you bring your own bottle, pick which you want and he pours, so many hanging from wall with the plastic hose inside and pour in bottle. a site to see
walking roaming down canal della misericordia, saw ristorante diana, had to stop for nibble and wine since my friend's name was diane!!
take vaporetto to burano, we got off at mazzorbo island right before burano and had glass of wine at trattoria alla maddalena, walked the small island and crossed wooden bridge to burano. (isoladiburano.it) one of my favorite islands
alongdustyroads.com/ burano
walk the canals with the pastel colored houses, stop to eat at one of few restaurants, try the seafood risotto, don't forget the bakeries with their known for cookies & biscuits. look at the handmade lace products (i bought a brooch, not cheap).always look at days/times places are open, especially restaurants.
