Part i
Three years planning for my dream vacation to Slovenia! Thanks to Rick Steves Guides book and forum members for advice.
Family of M&D, + 2 teenagers. Active family of nature lovers. We flew from Newark to Brussels, then Ljubljana. Return flight Ljubljana to Munich then Newark. Going we had only carryon, flying back we checked all baggage due to small airlines request. Each flight, no problems whatsoever.
Prebooked GoOpti for pickup at airport to downtown walking district. Under $40 and efficient.
Three nights in Ljubljana staying downtown in the historic section at Petkovsek Rooms and Apartments. Good, clean, and quiet due to double glazed windows. Great location to all the restaurants and attractions. Nice to have free coffee and morning croissant downstairs outside tables watching the world go by.
Attractions visited- Ljubljana Castle- It was good, just don’t expect anything too historic. Nice views.
Slovenian National Museum-Great for a history nerd like me. Kids blew past me and onto natural history section which they liked. Good museum.
Joze Plecnik House museum-Great for history/planner enthusiasts like me. Also went inside National and University Library. I was wowed, kids were kind of impressed by the man.
Used RS Book for self-guided walking tour, and Tivoli Park.
Restaurants- Kids gave thumbs up to Hood Burger. Pop’s Pizza, good but long tourists lines. TaBar (special anniversary dinner for us) good, my first Michelin star dining experience. Julija great meal and service at lunch.
Took bus to Airport (under 20E) to pick up car. Get full insurance, trust me on this. It’s easy to scrape car on narrow mountain roads with overhanging rocks and two way traffic!
Drove to Logar Valley to hike Rinka waterfall. Challenging hike but beautiful. Note- All our hikes were easy- to challenging, but did not involve ropes or helmets or crampons. I do suggest a sturdy hiking boot with ankle support though.
Enjoying the reports. You do know that you can combine all three into one posting. Just input your additional data/info under Reply in your original/first posting.

Just out of curiosity... what made Slovenia your dream vacation?
It's sooo helpful to read trip reports like yours. I especially appreciate the notes about driving. Even if a route is "do-able", IMO, that may not be good enough since this is a vacation and I'd prefer "enjoyable". Thanks for taking the time to post, outdoorsy
