Retrieving verizon.net email while in Europe

Last fall while in the UK I could not retrieve my Verizon email unless I logged in through their MyVerizon webpage on a public computer. I just got off the phone with Verizon about an hour ago, and they told me that as of May 25th, 2015, the access to emails through overseas portals is no longer blocked. Has anyone be able to retrieve their Verizon.net emails using their iPhone recently? I'm heading back to the UK soon, and I really would prefer not to have to setup a gmail account and have everything forwarded to it.

It's confusing because I think people started replying about Verizon wireless roaming, which is a totally unrelated topic.

I used to work at the Apple Store and let me tell you, there are no shortage of email issues!

Can you download a Verizon app to access your Verizon.net email? Or possibly the Verizon.net website has a mobile version that you can use from your phone?

All the posts in that thread talk about issues in retrieving Verizon emails BEFORE May 25,2015. That's why I was asking for any recent experiences.

You could also setup a VPN account from a US provider and connect to it from the UK on your device before trying to retrieve your Verizon email - because the VPN would give you an IP address in the US, and Verizon would think you are in the US.

But the Gmail approach should work fine. You can even setup Gmail to SEND email using your Verizon account - so when you reply to a message, the recipient thinks you are responding from Verizon, not Gmail. And that should work anywhere.

Thank you for your comments Andrew. I know I can set up an alternative email account, but as I noted earlier, I prefer not to. Just would like to know of anyone's RECENT experience retrieving Verizon.net email.
