Verizon in Europe

Very difficult to get your verizon emails in Europe. You may have wifi in your hotel but V blocks access. Have to contact V to unblock your hotel IP address. Also a problem if you use a European SIM card. V will also block. No problems getting gmail or Mac mail. Even my work email comes through. Not something you would expect from V and did not see any info on this when looking up using your V phone in Europe

That seems to be a rather goofy way to structure an E-mail service? It shouldn't be necessary to contact them to have each of your hotels "unblocked".

Question-What kind of phone do you have? Do you use Verizon Email? We just called Verizon, and they said our Iphone 6 is unlocked so it should be easy to buy and use a European Sim Card. We use Gmail and Yahoo.mail to get email, not Verizon Mail, so I wonder it is a Verizon Server Issue and or the type of phone you are using? Just a thought. It seems really odd to me...

Sounds really odd to me, too. I don't use my Verizon (now Frontier) email, anyway. I use Gmail and Yahoo and have never had a problem of any kind accessing my email wherever I am, including China. I have Verizon cell service, but I don't trust them with anything really important, like my email access. One other thing you can do that might improve access (if using a laptop or tablet) would be to use a "hot spot blocker" that hides your location from Verizon. I use one when in Europe to be able to watch US TV programs while abroad from sites that normally block access to anyone outside the US (note to self: never book a trip during the finale week of Amazing Race). You sign into the hot spot blocker, then access the internet. Everything should be accessible then.

I am using an Iphone 5s and Ipad. I purchased a Vodaphone sim for Spain. No problems getting gmail or mac mail on Iphone or Ipad. No problem using cell to reach Internet on Iphone. Only issue has been getting Verizon emails. Who would have thougt this would be a problem. Will try a VPN/hotspot blocker, but really should not have to.

If you have Gmail, why do you need to use Verizon email? Just setup your Verizon email account to forward everything to your Gmail account. If you really need to "reply" with your Verizon email address, you can setup Gmail to do that too.

Great idea if I knew about this issue before traveling to Spain. Can't log into my V account from here.

I had trouble in Bosnia and Germany in March and couldn't access any Verizon emails. I've been in Croatia, Austria, and Bosnia for two weeks now and still cannot access emails. Very frustrating as I called verizon several days before I left the US and was assured I would not have a problem anywhere in the world now. First day tried to sign in in Vienna and access was blocked. I've filed a whitelist form twice but no help. I finally opened a gmail acct. for recent communication but have missed two weeks of correspondence through Verizon. Don't depend on V. for help or assistance. It's a waste of time. Just use another server.

Added Int'l Calling to our Verizon account for the time we were in Western Europe earlier this summer, setting it up to begin on getaway day and to cease the day after we were scheduled to return. While the service worked in most of the countries visited (as to be expected, in some places the coverage was spotty, in others it had more juice), the surprise occurred about a month after we returned, when they 'forgot' to turn off the international option and we found the device was still being charged for IC (some 45 days after the scheduled disable date). A call to customer service did resolve the matter, with Verizon crediting-back the account due to their system notes confirming what should've been the cut-off date. But I wanted to share this experience to forewarn anyone thinking of using Verizon service in Europe... check your bill. You wonder if it was an honest mistake, or if it's a larger (dishonest) practice, assuming many people don't read thru the details on an invoice and simply pay what the bill says [especially in this age when many use a third-party autopay service/feature for recurring bills].
