I started traveling 10 years ago and was taking a electric (battery powered) razor with me, then I decided to use shaving oil for the last 4-5 years and it works very well. Within the last month I bought some "Pacific single use shaving cream mini's" and have tried them at home and I have to admit I am impressed.
They are small little packets that dissolve in your hand when water is added, the resulting shaving cream is perfect for a good shave and even better then the oil I have been using. I'm going to England and France in September and will take 14-15 of the packets in either a zip-lock bag or a Go-Toob tub and see how if works under travel conditions. I'm not affiliated with the Pacific Shaving Company, if your interested you can google them.
I am still using a battery razor with two double AAs. Lasts about 30 days. Isn't as good as home razor or a blade but I am on vacation and I can tolerate a less than perfect shave. To me it just sounds like for stuff to carry even if it is only a few ozs.
Discussed at length in this thread: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/packing/shaving-cream
Dr Bronners.
Fresh blade. Dry skin. Works every time (for me). One less thing to carry around.
The Art of Shaving has small tubes of high quality shaving cream. Available on Amazon. I have sensitive skin, use the unscented. A tube lasts 3-4 weeks shaving twice daily. You only need a little bit at a time.
Harry's has a shave cream that comes in a 3.4 oz (100 ML) tube.
I still use an electric with rechargeable battery, and so far no problems with that approach. I also pack a Trac III and some shaving oil as "backup" (which I've had to use a couple of times).
What's wrong with growing a beard? I do carry a disposable razor for touch-ups with the same bar of ivory I carry for showers, hair, and clothes.
To quote Frank, "I am on vacation ... sounds like" more "stuff to carry even if it is only a few ozs".
"What's wrong with growing a beard?"
I'm very uncomfortable with even a day's growth of beard. I don't feel "human" until I've shaved in the morning, and don't care how much gear I have to pack to accomplish that.
A second nod to the Harrys shaving line of products. They even sent me a few individual use packets of aftershave when I requested for light packing :-)
Historically, I rarely shave on vacation. The last 2 years, having grown a beard, I need to trim it when on a longer vacation. Which is difficult to do as scissors are hard to come by when traveling (without buying some) and I don't want to lug along my trimmers.
Outside of that, I might shave the neck and upper face a bit but for me, the last thing I want to do when I am on vacation is shave.
Although, I've also shaved the head bald so that requires a bit of upkeep as well. the tortures of being a harry Neanderthal.
