Pocket scarf!

I know this may sound like an ad but I promise it’s not, just something really neat that I saw on Instagram and thought this would be a good crowd to share. It’s a scarf that has a secret pocket, as a money belt alternative! Some lightweight fabrics for summer. Lots of really pretty patterns. I think I will get one for my upcoming trip.

I bought a cheap one in February when I was going to be on a chilly plane to California. And it was so cold and wet in California that I wore it every day.....

eEven tho a passport would fit it the pocket that would be pretty pointy and obvious. I had to position it several times before the zipper handle was not rubbing on me or hanging out in an obvious fashion. I'd say get one and try it for awhile before you are tempted to get multiples

I've seen these before but always wondered if they are comfortable to wear.

I presume the weight of the passport, or whatever else one puts in there, will weigh it down.

I thought it was a neat idea too, but detest infinity scarves (too much going on in the front for me). If it was cold enough to warrant wearing I'd probably have on a light jacket with inside pockets instead.

There have been posts on this before discussing the pros and cons. This one had quite a few comments.

Personally I don't think I'd like anything like that around my neck, but that's just me. I'm sure they work for others or they wouldn't have been around for so long - some of the threads I saw when I searched 'pocket scarf' were 8 years old, so it's not a new thing.

A money belt stays pretty secure under your clothes, doesn't have to match an outfit, and you're unlikely to take it off, even if you get hot. Scarves (and hats and jackets) with secret pockets seem easier to lose, forget, or stuff into a different day bag, so you have to be more mindful.

I’d have to do something different with my passport, I agree it would be too much for the scarf. But I detest money belts and know I won’t wear one. I think I did once and I was miserable.

My travel buddy got me one to use for our upcoming trip and I agree with Laura. I’m afraid I would forget it somewhere after taking it off. I’ll probably use the scarf but not out valuables in the pocket.

cj-traveler! You made me laugh! Me too....

There are some cute prints, though.

Well I hate infinity scarves too, because they are so limited. There’s nothing an infinity scarf does that I can’t do with an oblong scarf. And I can do other things with an oblong too (kimono tie, skirt tie, etc.)

But the big thing for me is the extra weight that hidden pocket scarves put on the neck. That’s why I also hate the ScotteVest. The design puts pressure on the disks in the back of my neck. That causes tension in my neck muscles and the next thing I know I have a headache and my shoulder is going into spasms.

And what do you do if it gets so warm that you want to remove the scarf? You’re stuck.

To me it looks like a solution in search of a problem.

Did you adjust the fit?

Did you look at other designs? There are several types of money belts so a failure in one type doesn’t mean they are all uncomfortable.

I agree that anything heavy in it would be uncomfortable. But for some easily accessible cash, I like the idea. I don’t like taking my wallet out on the street. That I keep in a zippered interior pocket in my cross-body purse/bag. So for street vendors or food trucks or the occasional handout I like to have a small amount of handy cash.

I haven’t tried a variety of money belts but the one I had was light and thin, and I’ll agree to disagree on them. I tend to wear thinner fabrics and can’t stand the extra bulk under my pants or skirt. It’s not the belt per se but the feel of the stuff inside. Just not for me. And I have travelled quite a bit, in many cities in Europe.

I have a black knit pocket scarf that I bought at the AAA Travel store. I wear the scarf on the plane to hold the essentials within easy reach such as cough drops, tissue, lip balm. The other time I use it in in hotels when going down to breakfast and the pants do not have a pocket for the room key. Again, very convenient. We have been warned not to take purses into the breakfast rooms.
My passport is always on me during the flight. I have a travel blouse that has a zipper and the passport fits in that pocket. I use the neck style money belt and loop in through bra straps. Works for me.

I just leave my passport at the hotel. On travel days it’s in my backpack.

I’m not buying pants without pockets.
