Just bought a wonderful travel top!

I've been looking for some long-sleeved tops for my upcoming Iceland/Scandinavia trip. I have a merino-wool top and another warmer one, but I wanted something that could help if it got warmer outside. I found these cotton modal long-sleeve tops on Quince that I absolutely love! They were delivered yesterday (I ordered 3 of them in black, navy and olive green) and feel SO good against the skin, look great (a bit drapey and not clingy at all, which I hate) and the binding around the neck is wider, which makes it more stable (imo). They're also a good length—not cropped but not too long.

They are VERY lightweight, and I am quite sure will dry very quickly. They're also only $21, and if you buy 3, they are 20% off. I will definitely let you know how they worked on the trip, but thought I'd post a blurb about them now, because they really seem like wonderful garments for traveling! FWIW, they look better on me than they do in the photos (it's usually the opposite, lol!). https://www.quince.com/women/cotton-modal-relaxed-long-sleeve-tee

Mardee, thanks for posting. They look great. Did you find the size chart to be accurate? The only items I've purchased from Quince are their cashmere sweaters.

Maybe you should post a photo in your online review!

You may want to toss in a short sleeve top depending on forecasts. In May/June 2023 we had t-shirt weather away from the western coast.

Edited to add another question after looking at more photos. Are the sleeves super long? Thanks.

jean, I think the size chart is very accurate. I bought the size I usually do and it fits perfectly, which I've found is usually the case with Quince. I am bringing one or two SS tops just in case, but I already have some. And these new tops feel cool enough that I don't think they would be much different than a SS top in warm weather.

And yes, I will post a photo of them!

I'm interested in finding out how fast they dry when hanging. I have a similar top from a different brand, but takes forever to dry.

Mardee:
This is just what I have been looking for as I saw on another recent post about this company, Quince. I am looking for long sleeve tops and usually just buy from Lands' End, but I saw Quince on instagram and am very interested! We will be traveling for 5 and half weeks in the fall and I need tops I can wash and dry overnight. These sound perfect! I am wondering about sizing though and length. As I mentioned, I shop at Lands' End and end up getting petite (medium) as the tops are so long. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much for the post!!

Mardee, I've been playing this new fun game. "Guess the OP, by post title"! ;) I usually can pick yours right off! I REALLY like Quince. I bought a couple linen pieces for the summer from them. Amazing quality! I also was gifted a silk pillowcase from Quince that goes a long way to keeping my hair from getting crazy overnight. Those tops are priced similar to Target!

As I've said more than once, I hate shopping. For clothes, I've now added Quince to my "regulars" which includes Nordstrom, LLBean and Eddie Bauer, and of course, Costco.

Mardee, I’m happy to know that their sizing fit you. I found Quince’s sizing all over the spectrum and have almost quit buying from them. I don’t like buying clothes without trying them on or being able to feel the material, regardless of how good the return policy is.

I bought this top before our Portland trip. It packed well, no wrinkles, very comfortable. I haven’t washed it yet; hoping it doesn’t shrink like the yak sweater did.

UPDATE 6/28 I washed the red shirt yesterday. Label says “machine washable.” I washed it in a red only load on cold water delicate and hung to dry. Other than pinning the slight sleeve cuff so I wouldn’t have to touch up with the iron, it turned out great. I would have skipped that if I was traveling. I plan to buy another one in a different color.

Mardee, those look very nice!

I love a cotton/modal blend. I used to get Lands End tees in that blend but they haven't carried their classic crew neck tee in it in a long time. I've gotten several Cotton/Modal blend tees at my local Fred Meyer (Kroger). It's the Dip brand and they are usually $10.99. They hand wash and dry well but don't last long because they get those micro-pinholes over my zipper or button at the waist band.

It sounds like Mardee needs to run a hand wash and dry test before she travels!

And Horsewoofie...that cherry red top looks excellent!

I will definitely wash them. In fact, I plan to do that tonight and will let you know how long they take to dry.

I am a bit of a Quince junkie and bought this shirt for an April/May trip to England. It was comfortable and draped well and seemed to be true to size which doesn’t always happen with more tailored clothes from Quince. I haven’t worn the shirt much since I returned because long sleeves and DC summers are not a good match. Some of the short sleeve v necks shirts I bought a while ago did seem to lose their shape a little after multiple washes but I’m still wearing them a year and a half later.

Thanks so much for posting this Mardee! I am allergic to wool/cashmere so when most people post about long sleeved tops, it's not something I can wear. And thanks jules m for posting about the linen tops. I'd looked at some on their site recently and they looked even bigger/boxier than I tend to wear, but with the sale on the long sleeve t shirt I've ordered that and a short sleeve linen top and will see how they work!

Ha, I knew was you before I even clicked on the thread:)

I love Quince and just ordered 4 of these. Well 8, as I got two sizes of each since the reviews said if you put them in the dryer they shrink so to size up. I got the black, navy, gray and a purplish blue.

Hi Mardee,
We’re in Oslo now, have been for a week. Ohmygosh did I pack wrong. It’s SO warm and muggy! I only have 1 short sleeve t shirt and it gets reworn as much as possible. Even 3/4 sleeve linen blouse feels warm. Jeans are much too hot to wear. My puffy vest stays in the suitcase. And I’m someone who is usually cold. Just thought I’d let you know. Headed out to the fjords today, supposed to be 84 degrees in Flåm.

Luv2Travel, noooooooooo!!!!! Now I have to pack for cold and hot! I've already started my pre-packing and now I'll have to add in some sleeveless and short sleeve tops. I will still need the puffer vest and cold weather gear, though, as I don't think Iceland will be having a heat wave. 😊 Thanks for the weather update!

Barbara, you're welcome! They are nice. I washed them last night and they were completely dry by morning.

Thanks for reporting back, Mardee. I may give it a try. I see they have good return options. I never ordered from Quince before but I heard a lot about it from others, and they are all over my feed. Good marketing for sure.

Joy, returns are very easy and return shipping is free. In fact, the last time I returned something (a bodystocking), they told me to keep it.

I'm far from the level of enabler as our Mardee, but when I saw the mention of hot weather in Norway, of all places, I had to mention my new love! I am always looking for very cool pants to cover my very sun sensitive skin. Usually my go to is linen (LLBean or Quince). But, about a month ago, I found Athleta Brooklyn pants. They are so incredibly cool. I intended to just order black, but there was a green on sale (I think its the "cacti") so I bought both! The green is so fun for summer. Goes with black, navy, cream, black stripe, etc., and I've received so many compliments including "slimming". Maybe I should buy in every color! They are loose fitting so I'm going to bring them to Ireland in September and I'll wear with leggings if I need some warmth. They are meant to be ankle length, but I wanted them longer, I ordered the regular length and because I'm short (5-3 1/2) they ended up to be the length I wanted. Now there are more colors on sale!

Kate, what can I say? I shopped for years when I worked in theatre and the urge has never left me, lol!

Jules, I love those pants! And of course, just ordered a pair of the green ones. I got another 20% off because I signed up for emails (which I will then unsubscribe to once it arrives). I do like Athleta products and have a Gap credit card so why not?

jules_m. Those pants look just like my RBX ones. They are thin and light, I have in a few colors. (Forum filter didn't allow me to post link for pants. Everyday Ribbed Ankle Pant)

But my travel pants which I also use in warm places for long walks are from Target ! I have several in different colors. They are perfect for the plane with zippered pocket for my passport, and ankle elastic (jogger style) so they don't touch bathroom floor. I am not a shorts/skirt/dress person so those are my go-to pants for summer. They dry super fast too. They go in an out of stock often, and new colors come up from time to time. I recently got the navy blue but see they are out of most sizes. https://www.target.com/p/women-s-flex-woven-mid-rise-cargo-joggers-all-in-motion/-/A-89436891?preselect=89296664#lnk=sametab
I tried their new version (pants, not jogger so no ankle elastic) but the legs were too wide.

I always count on you Mardee to suggest reliable/useful travel tips. I've been purchasing Quince clothing for about 2 years. For me, with all clothing purchases, the size depends on the style and the brand of the item. So, an example is that I purchased a Quince mongolian cashmere henley dolman sleeve sweater in size XS but also a cardigan in small. They both fit perfectly. I recently purchased the Quince linen patch pocket pants in size 4 navy. Liked them so much that I ordered them in flax color size 4. I had to exchange the flax for a size 6 as the flax 4 was a lot smaller than the navy size 4. It was an easy exchange process. When the bar code on the USPS exchange label was scanned it generated a message to me that Quince had started the process of shipping the replacement that arrived on my doorstep 2 days later. Looking forward to hot, hot Corsica next month in my cotton and linen Quince apparel. Jules- the Athleta Brooklyn pants look exactly like my $12 Costco pants that I have in 3 different colors.

These look really great. Mardee (and others who have these tops) if I am in between a small and a medium based on the chest/waist/ hips size guide measurements, which should I order? Do they shrink at all in the wash/ dryer? I don’t want tight fitting - Lordy no on that one- but don’t want the top to swim on me, either. I guess I could order one of each size, but thought I would see if you had any feedback first.

At the end of the order they ask what led you to their website today. I choose option "Other: Mardee".

mikliz97, you put my shopping to shame! That is really thinking ahead! 🤣

pl, aren't returns easy there? I really love that store. I found the tops I just bought when I was browsing on Facebook, and a Quince reel popped up (you think it knows I'm there????) showing a model wearing it. It looked so fresh and nice that I couldn't resist.

Mustlovedogs, I generally wear a large, but occasionally some tees that are a bit clingy feel too small and I don't like how they hug my hips. These feel like a true large, and I feel they are very true to size. They don't cling—I love how they just hang gently and are just a little drapey. It's hard to explain but hopefully you know what I mean.

I would say that if you are between a small and a medium, I would think the Small might work for you. That said, you could order one of each and return the one you don't like, or order the one you think is closest and return it for the next size if it doesn't work. Seriously their return process is SO easy.

Edit: just saw Jules' response - go with the small. :)

Mardee--My shirts just arrive! They are so soft, I love them! The smaller size is what I am keeping, but I think I would have gone down another size even. I think the S or even the XS would work. The M is big, but will see how it washes up.

I'm glad, mikliz! I know I love mine—in fact, I just saw that they have the same thing in a short sleeve version so of course I had to order one of those in storm blue. But just one tee this time—I really need to stop buying stuff now! 😂

I'm eagerly waiting for the dryer report, too. My tee just arrived. I should have sized down. But if the tee shrinks in the dryer, I'll keep it.

I received the cotton/modal long sleeve t and the European linen camp shirt I ordered just a few days ago. Both in M as I usually am an M or L depending on where I buy. The linen shirt fits well, could maybe be even a little smaller but that style should be pretty loose (and I don't like clingy, tend to wear my clothes bigger).

The long sleeve t in medium is smaller and would have possibly kept and tried it hoping it didn't shrink, but I am on the taller side with long arms and the sleeves are too short. So now I'm off to figure out the return policy and try it in a large!

Ordered the smalls today in black and olive green. I decided to roll the dice and fingers crossed hope I didn’t need to size up. The fact that
Chick Fil A has their Peach Shakes back on the menu here is not helping my hopes though!

Luv2travel, I washed all 3 (in the washer on cold), and hung them to dry, and they fit exactly as they did when I bought them. The dryer might make a difference, though.

I'm wearing the blue one today—it's so comfortable and really looks good. I decided I'm taking all 3 of them with me on my trip. They pack up SO small that they barely take up any room.

I have to give a shout out to Quince for their customer service. I needed to return the tops that were too big but could not find my order number anywhere, and no email, nothing. So I went on chat with them and they looked under both of my emails, and again nothing. Then she asked if I used Apple Pay, which I did, and apparently I hit the "hide my email" during the process. Then somehow the email had an extra letter in it, so not sure if that was me (probably) or what. Anyway, she had me look on my credit card for the Apple Pay transaction number and we found it. She just kept digging and was not giving up, and was so pleasant about it. She immediately emailed me the return label and it is on its way back to Quince.

Ugh, sorry about that, Luv2Travel. But I'm sure it was still beautiful. We don't get to Alesund till the end of July so who knows what the weather will be like then! Thanks for the update!

Just an FYI about the cotton/modal short-sleeved tee: I bought it hoping it would be just like the long-sleeved top. The fabric was the same and the fit, which was good, but it was 2-3" longer than the LS tee, and the neck binding was a bit narrower. I really liked the shorter length but \will still keep the SS tee, as it fits well. I will probably either hem it, however, or just tuck it in.

julesm,

Are the Athleta pants pull-on?
Looks like the wide leg version has a "discreet zip pocket for card or key" in the right front pocket, but not the tapered leg.

What about the back pockets? Functional welt pockets or just decoration?

Posted by

khanson
The Athleta pants are pull on. The front of the waste band is slightly stretchy. The back is an elastic material, but lays smooth.
I haven't looked at the wide leg style of the Brooklyn. The tapered leg style has somewhat deep pockets in the front. In the back, the two pockets have a zipper. My iphone (smaller version) and a passport fits in a pocket. I have a small wallet, that could fit in the back pockets as well.

In some ways, I wish the front pockets had zippers, too. However, I love that these pants can go from very casual, like hiking, and could be made to look quite dressy. So, unless the front pockets had zippers that looked discreet, I like the pants the way they are.

khansen (and Jules), I ordered those Athleta Brooklyn pants after Jules described them and the were delivered today. I tried them on and love them! They are SO comfortable to wear and they really look good on me (which is always a struggle with pants). As Jules mentioned, the tapered mid-rise pants are regular length for me because I'm also short (5'4"), but I like it that way.

I'm washing them now and will hang them to dry to see how long it takes, but they're very lightweight so I don't imagine it will take forever. And I am one who actually doesn't like zippered pockets in the front of pants, because I like to get into and out quickly and sometimes zippers can snag and just be irritating in general. So I'm very happy with the pockets the way they are.

I did look at the wide-leg pants and really like the look of those. But if I buy a pair of them, I'm sure I will go with the petite size. I love that blue color. But I am going to withstand temptation and not buy any more clothes before I leave on Wednesday!!!

Kathy, I love the look of that gauze top! And if I wasn't so close to leaving, I might be tempted to buy it! That's nice that the washing/drying worked out so well!

Edited to add another question after looking at more photos. Are the sleeves super long? Thanks.

jeanm sorry, I just saw this question. The sleeves are long (although I wouldn't say that are super long), but my arms are short, so I have that problem with just about every top. I think if your arms are not short, they would hit at the correct spot on your wrist.

As I mentioned, I shop at Lands' End and end up getting petite (medium) as the tops are so long. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much for the post!!

Cindy, darn, I missed a lot of questions. Well, I guess it depends on how short you are. I'm 5'4" and I've been happy with the regular sizes so far. The only one that was long was the modal/cotton tee that I just got yesterday. I really like it, but it's way too long on me. However, because it's knit, I'm just cutting off what I want and will let it hang. I do that with t-shirts sometimes and I have sharp rotary cutter that I use so it always looks even.

Mardee always makes so much sense. On second thought, I don't think I'd want zipper front pockets on the Athleta pants.

EDITED TO ADD: In case this helps anyone with an order, I usually have worn medium Quince. I ordered the cotton modal t-shirts in medium, and for me, they are too small. That said, proportionally, I'm a bit busty, and in most brands, I do wear a large in T shirts. The Quince Ts are beautiful. The fabric is lovely and it would pack small. I'm going to reorder a short sleeve in large.

Update on sizing for those who are kind of in between sizes. I originally ordered two smalls, but while they fit, I felt it was just too snug across the chest. (I had similar issues as Jules it seems) I then ordered a medium to compare and it just came in and it’s perfect. Just exchanged the smalls. I really like the fabric and weight. Thanks for suggesting these mardee! Have a wonderful time on your trip!

I wanted to let you know I ordered three of the cotton modal long-sleeve tops on Quince; absolutely love them!! The fabric is so nice and I feel they will hand wash really well. I, too, bought the Quince T's on Mardee's suggestion and really like them. I ordered the short sleeve version, in size L -- I can usually wear a medium but I hate for tops to be too snug, so I went with the chest size measurements. I love that these T's are rather long, as I have a l-o-n-g torso and like to have full abdominal coverage, including when I raise my arms :~).
Love the fabric and will probably keep them......it's funny but now most of my 100% cotton tops that I used to love feel too heavy and thick on me, now that I've gotten accustomed to tencel and modal blends, as well as technical fabric quick dry active wear.

Wanted to provide an update, specifically on the long sleeve cotton/modal shirt. I did also buy the European button up Linen shirt in medium and that is a little big but I'm fine with baggier clothes. The medium in the long sleeve t was a little snug and the sleeves weren't long enough (I have long arms) so exchanged it. The large was much better in the arms. I just washed and dried it and it did shrink a little, particularly the arm length, but I'll keep it and hope it doesn't shrink any more. Do really like the light weight fabric and feel of the shirt.
