Any recent favorite travel TROUSERS?? Updated

I just used the woolx Nicole Ankle Pants for our trip last month. Super comfy and they didn't stink! Over the course of two weeks I did not need to wash them. I did not wear them every day though. I love that they have three different lengths and have a zippered pocket. They are pricy, but woolx regularly runs sales, usually for 20 to 30 percent off. Never pay full price--there will be a sale soon.

I really like Athleta Endless pants. They fit well, do not wrinkle and dry quickly. To me they are kind of “business casual” type pants that can be dressed up or down. However, I have discovered that the material is a bit too heavy if traveling somewhere with warm weather.

Thanks to both of you, SIbdaisy I will watch out for sales! saf - I even wear my 'summer weight' Mt Hardware pants in Rome at Christmas time (with a jacket) so those Athleta pants would be too warm.

I should have added I recently discovered 'RAB' pants at REI, they have the requisite zipper, are a bit more fitted and flattering than the Mt Hardware, but aren't as soft, & have a bit of a starchy finish to them, which for biking in Uppsala is great but no no on airplanes!

I’ve been wearing Athleta pants for years now, the Venice joggers are what I wear on the plane, they take forever to dry but they are comfy and retain their shape. I like their Trekkie North joggers. I have two pair and wore them on our Germany tour in May, easily rinsed out and dry quickly. Last year I bought a pair of Eddie Bauer Raniers because I have a pair of the capris and really like the fit only it looks like Eddie Bauer has cut that line in their restructuring.

My (plane) travel pants are All in Motion joggers from Target! I have it in black and navy blue and tan. They are great for errands when not traveling, have zippered and unzipped side pockets. And zipped inner pocket out front. They dry super fast and perfect for warm weather. I like joggers for plane to avoid pants hitting bathroom floor.

I also have a pair from Amazon but use it most for hiking and wet weather which I brought to Scandinavia. They have side zippered pockets but looks more like pants less cargo. I will find link later.

These from Prana are super comfortable and the cargo pockets hold my passport, small flat travel wallet and phone between the two Velcro leg pockets. But there's more pockets in back and at the top thigh, too.

If you don't want the hiking/cargo vibe (I like the ankle pulls) they make them without. Halle, I think?
I use them for hiking but in a pinch (I have the black) without putting anything in the cargo leg pockets they can "read" dressier.

I have these in three colors. I got them on sale a few years back and love them so much I haven’t shopped for anything new really. They are very comfortable, dry quickly, and fit me well. I like that they aren’t super rugged looking, and I can get by wearing them with a nicer top out and about. They also can be shortened with the inside tab strip/ button to make them capri length if it gets warm.

I like nylon, and avoid polyester for pants. I also have pants from Prana and Outdoor Research.
My criteria might be different than most, though. Nylon and dark colors but not black.

I've had past success with Costco's Kirkland travel pants (on sale currently https://www.costco.com/p/-/kirkland-signature-womens-travel-pant/4000406518?sp=grs&langId=-1) but they it looks like they don't have the zip leg pocket in the latest design (but check them out anyway).

I like Aphrodite pants and capris from The North Face. I only buy them on sale from REI, Sierra and once from Dick's Going Going Gone. They are a little sporty, but they are lightweight, stretchy and very comfortable. Different ones have different pocket configurations. some have a zipped pocket in the front pocket; others have a zip pocket on the leg. They run kind of big and come in a long/tall size, which is part of the allure for me, as I am tall and big.

Three ideas for REI - CL, Ttrailmade pants, G3rryCee -Aphrodite 2.0 Pants & Mor - Kuhl, (which I've worn in the past & really liked.)

My entire pants wardrobe for my most recent trip was Unbound Merino's travel pants. They feel/look like "real" pants, not athletic pants, they roll up super small for packing and they dry overnight if washed in the sink. They are really the perfect travel pants, IMO.

My favorites are Eddie Bauer Rainier, Athleta Brooklyn (no front zip pockets) and LLBean hiking pants.

I'm a big fan of the prana Koen pant. I bought a new pair (a size larger than my old ones, thank you mid-life changes) for our germany trip and I've worn them probably 1/3 of the whole trip, including both flights. I loved my yoga pants and my men's Eddie Bauer travel pants, but I lost quite a bit of weight and needed new pants. (I wear men's pants since after menopause - grrrr- they fit better)

I took these to Hawaii for travel over and back and they were comfortable and polished (enough) looking.

I actually bought two more pairs: one in navy and one in charcoal for my capsule wardrobe. They went through multiple wearings looking pretty good/not wrinkled and when I washed and hung them dry, they dried quick. Win win.

Are the Amazon nylon pants noisy?

I have some similar, also from Amazon, that are polyester. Not noisy. Very thin and slick. Rolled up they would fit in a paper towel cardboard tube. Libin

I removed the zipper pulls also.

I wish the front pockets were deeper, but that is a dream for women's pants apparently.

I also wish they didn't have the horizontal seam across the thigh, but I bought black, so the seam doesn't show that much.

My favorite pocket design is the Scottevest Margaux Yogaux pants. They have front zippered pockets behind open hand pockets, but I don't like the waistband. The back is ribbed knit and the front has a very thick drawstring that is sewn to the side seams, no elastic in front.

And again, for me they would be better to have the zippered pocket 2-3 inches deeper than the hand pocket, so a passport would sit on top of my thigh instead of folded between my leg and torso. They are also pricey.

This won't be helpful, but bigger pants = more gelato! FWIW the internal drawcord is helpful to cinch (and let out) the waist. At least you'll have something to wear to tide you over until you find your next best pair!

I love these pants from Amazon. They don’t make noise, lots of good zippered pockets (too many zipper pulls though so I remove the ones on the legs), they can be sink-washed and will dry overnight. I have them in blue and black. Elastic waist with draw string.

Unfortunately I'm returning the "REI Trail Made" pants, they have a seam across the thighs that chafes while walking, fine while sitting! At some point I will go back to REI (for the third time?) to try on various Prana pants, they looked really nice.

I hate that the description refers to them as “sweatpants” because they’re really not. They're made from a smooth, stretchy technical fabric that feels almost silky, resists wrinkles, dries quickly, and is perfect for travel. Best of all, they're super comfortable.

I probably wouldn't wear them hiking in the mountains, but for wandering around cities and towns, I think they're perfect!

For those looking and I've seen brought up on this thread, I've owned the Prana Halle pants for many years and have them in every color I would consider wearing. Bought them first in part because they have a 'tall' version, and really like them. They don't wrinkle badly for travel and not dressy but look a bit better than some pants. They can be pricey, but they do have sales from time to time.

I have the same pants and like them a lot. Except the elastic at the waist is quite thick. I removed the string cord for a more polished look. I use it mostly in town and not on trips. But it lacks the zippered pockets.

I also got bermuda shorts from same brand which I like a lot.

I ordered the Athleta endless pants but the ones I received had gigantic baggy legs even in a small size. That was not the look on the model wearing them. Anyway, I returned them and bought these instead from Outdoor Research. Lesley - I liked these pants, which I also found at REI. They're a bit less soft, but definitely dressier than what I usually wear, so I bought a pair for slightly nicer traveling, perhaps not cozy enough for airplane pants but close!

That's too bad Joy. I agree to the form fitting, though they were OK, I didn't like the fabric as well as Mt Hardware, dang it! FYI, REI also sells them, 365 day return policy is nice to have.

Believe it or not, Mt Hardware did away with the larger zipper pocket I had raved about! My next plan is to take my new pair to the tailor who promised me she could add the zipper, gosh.

Thanks for sharing the fleece lined pants. I have a couple of pairs of their fleece lined leggings. I like the style of the one you linked but I’m wondering about the length. I’m 5’3” and most pants that style are too long.

Sandancisco - I have non-lined pants from Baleaf and really like them especially for the gym and jogging in the neighborhood.
But I also love pants with zippers for travel. I have great joggers but not lined. I'll keep looking for straight ones.

My local Marshalls/TJMaxx has good selection at the fitness section but I haven't found one that works for my size and body type.m. I like the RBX brand too and they've held well for me.

Just popping in to say I have a couple of pair of Kirsten’s suggestion of Willet pants from Amazon. I got them because they were inexpensive but come in a short length that works perfectly for me. I have a pair of the cargo pants with zippers and a pair of the yoga dress pants. Both go with me on every trip and I wear them at home.

I ordered the Willit pants and I like them! They are straight (not joggers as I have a bunch already from Target that I love). It is just a tiny bit tight on my hips, but otherwise they are great, and I love the pockets.

How in the heck did I miss this thread? Well, I see that it was started in July when I was just heading off to my summer Scandinavia trip, but I thought I would’ve picked up on it by now.

I will be back tomorrow to read through it in full detail because I am in desperate need of some new pants (it’s late, and I’m going to bed now, or I’d read through it ). Most of my pants are from Costco and they’re fine for everyday stuff, but I’m really looking for some new travel pants, and will especially need some for the Christmas market trip, so I will be scouring through the post here. I did have to return and order up a size, so keep that in mind. The material is a bit heavier than what I've currently got in my closet, but not so much that I'd be bothered by it in warm weather and it might help with my winter travel plans. I like the way they look like normal pants more than my other travel pants so I'm thinking of ordering another pair.

My cargo joggers from Target (All in Motion) are no longer in stock, and their new model (very similar) doesn't have the zippers that I love the most. These have been my travel and everyday pants as they are so lightweight and practical.

I rarely travel somewhere cold but will look into lined pants when the time comes.

I have a few things to say about winter pants - I like the RAB from REI, lots of zippered pockets. They fit about true to size, are a tad thicker than a summer pant & they have a bit of wind/rain resistance, but not waterproof. Maybe just wear whatever you like for travel & bring along rain pants? But hey, you live in Duluth, maybe you have some recommendations?

You must be, Nancy. 😂 I don't know why I like pockets, and sometimes I just want something to stick my hands in. But I hate having pants with no pockets. Especially in the front. I have one pair of pants that have pockets in the back, but nothing in the front, and it drives me crazy because I keep wanting to put my hands in there, and it won't let me! 😭

I'm so excited about finding this, and I'm scouring through it now to check out some of the recommendations. Honestly, my pants that I wear in Duluth are usually just jeans, khakis and some heavier knit pants. I don't own any fleece-lined pants, but I might look at some as long as they're lightweight. I don't like heavy pants, either on my body or in my suitcase. So I will check some of these out, and thank you all for the recommendations!

Okay, I have gone through every single post and clicked on a couple of dozen links, I think. I have lots of ideas. For one thing, not only do I need pants for the Christmas market trip, but I'm going to need pants for Scotland in May of next year, where I will be crawling around on all the Neolithic sites.

I'm going to wait a couple of days until the Amazon October sale starts to see what they have there, as I have my eye on a couple of pants that were listed here.

I really like the look of those REI Trailmade Barrel Pants. I especially like that they're water-repellent, which will stand me in good stead in Scotland. So those are a strong possibility. I saw Sandancisco's comment about how they have a seam across the thigh, but I'm figuring, since they're barrel pants, they're going to be wider, and it shouldn't be an issue. We'll see. I haven't ordered them yet. I'm going to think on that.

Sandancisco, I did order a pair of the Mountain Hardware Dynama ankle pants. The ones I got are crop pants, but since I'm so short, they will be regular length on me, which works. The model was wearing a pair, and they were cropped on her, but she's 5'10" and I'm a hair under 5'4", so I think the 6" will give me an advantage. They were on sale, and I liked the look of them as well. I ordered them from Mountain Hardware and got free shipping because I signed up for a free membership.

I will say I really like those prAna pants, and I have 2 pairs of pants in my cart right now that I'm trying desperately to hold off purchasing. Although I did sign up for texts, which is giving me 20% off (sigh; it's my brain fighting a losing battle).

And Kathleen, those merino wool pants look really wonderful, and I love the idea of them being lightweight and so easy to dry. But the thought of spending $218 for a pair of pants makes me cringe beyond belief. I grew up with a mother who was raised during the Depression, and it really stuck with me.

And on that note, I need to get out of here before I do something drastic that I regret. 😂

Sandancisco, I did order the prAna pants (the Stretch Zion High Rise Cargo Pant) as well. which should be here in a few days, so I'll see how those work. I'm going to hold off on the fleece-lined pants. I just wouldn't wear them that much outside of travel, and even with travel, I'm not sure that I'd really want them. If it's too cold, I'd just as soon put on a pair of base layer pants. Actually, my legs do not get very cold, usually, so I'm not too worried about them.

Also, my daughter (who wears women S) got yoga pants at Athleta few months ago (using a gift card) and they look so comfy! She's really picky about how clothes feel, so it has to be really comfortable for her to love it so much. But pricier than what I would pay for myself. Ha!

@Mardee - I also have pants from Jockey and love them! It's like cotton stretch, not workout type material. They are just simple yoga pants, no pockets and no zippers. I got them on Amazon, I think, a couple of years ago.

Undies, men and women, are pants (noisy or not). People wanting a different word may use knickers but that is a very old and nearly unused term now. 1970s, knickers, 2020s, pants. Even older - bloomers.

I just ordered those fleece lined pants from Amazon, so will see. My usual fleece lined leggings are Orvis from Costco. They are so incredibly comfy that after I bought I pair, I went back and bought 5 more, lol! I wear those in Iceland, but have also worn them to Germnany/Austria for the Christmas Markets and will take them again next month for that. They do not have any pockets, but the comfort is worth that sacrifice;)

Haha, Nigel! It is funny the different uses we put words to. To me, trousers are men's pants, women's pants are just pants (maybe slacks, but I think that term is dying out), and underwear can be called undies, panties, etc. Men's underwear are called briefs, boxers, and so on. And the term "underwear" can be used for both sexes. 😊

Sandancisco, I just got the Women's Dynama High Rise Ankle Pant I ordered from Mountain Hardwear, and I LOVE them! They feel so good on my legs and are so comfortable and look really good. I wasn't sure about the color (it was a color that was on sale) but it's perfect. it's called Purple Sage, and there's a hint of purple in there, but it's definitely muted and more like a sagey brown. I can see wearing it with a lot of different colors.

I got the Ankle Pant, but on me they are regular length, because I'm short. I will definitely be ordering more of these! Thank you for letting me know about them!

mikliz97, I have those Orvis fleece leggings and really like them a lot. I got mine at Costco in a charcoal grey, and they're so nice and cozy and comfortable.

That's me as well! I want to have my important items in my purse or a middle layer clothing's interior pocket. I like to split my items in transit. I'd have to have the exact same three pants to use the pockets for my travel peace of mind. It's habit, habit, habit for me. My system has to work for all clothes. OK, I digressed.

As usual, I am an outlier, it seems. I travel with two jeans and one nice looking yoga pant, which look more like slacks. My jeans are NYDJ, so comfy. They are comfy and have some stretch in them, as they are about 89% cotton. Mine are also different weights. I will pick the lightest and comfiest for the flight as I've never been on a cold flight...sigh. I seemed to be the only one of the group concerned with wearing natural fabrics, or as natural as I can realistically find, on the flight in case of an emergency. One pair is black and one is a dark wash, which, IMO, makes them dressier. The black jeans can be dressed up and the yoga pants, again, look like nice slacks. Granted, my packed jeans are likely the heaviest item in my suitcase.

Adding another terminology wrinkle: what about the term ‘slacks’? I use it occasionally for pants, never jeans. Jeans are always jeans. I travel with 2 pairs of slacks/pants that are about 20 years old and travel warriors, poly, rayon and wool blend, come out of the suitcase unwrinkled. They look ‘dressy’ but are super comfortable. Also I wear a pair of black yoga style boot cut pants that look nice and are great on the plane.

ETA: I’m on my 13th RS tour, rolling down the road to Munich, and those 3 pairs of pants/slacks are serving me well, yet again.

Lyndash, I mentioned that word above, but I think the term "slacks" is pretty much dated at this point. It was used a lot in the '50s through the '70s and '80s, but I don't think it's in common use anymore and hasn't been for a while.

But maybe we could bring it back, along with the term "bloomers"? 😂

By the way, I just received the prAna pants I ordered, which were the [Stretch Zion High Rise Cargo Pants][1] (in Thundercloud), and love them! They look really good, that surprised me. They fit perfectly as well.

The only issue was that they were a bit too long. I ordered the lowest inseam size, which was 29, and I'm more of a 27 to 28. Plus when I measured them, the actual pants were closer to 30" than 29. I'm going to wash them and see if they shrink any. If not, I may need to hem them.

I really like them a lot, and they feel really comfortable, as well as looking good. They're pricey, but I got 20% off since I signed up for texts (I used a Google Voice number).

Mardee, That's me...pretty dated. LOL Now I'll be listening to hear someone else around here say 'slacks'. I never hear anyone say 'trousers'. That being said, with a British son-I-L, our home language does pick up some British speak, but my H still wears pants. My grandson thinks he speaks two languages, American and British... ;0

Now that I think about it, ‘slacks’ must be dated. I’m pretty sure my mom used the term a lot, 1915 birthday. I use it occasionally I think, 1950 model here, but usually use pants. Of course my 2 favorite pairs of pants for great travel packing and wear are about 20 years old. I refer to them as bionic because I can’t believe they have lasted so long and still look good. Very middle of the road style so they’ve managed to not be very in style or out of style.

mikliz9- Those fleece lined ones look great, the Amazon ones I have are flared at the bottom. I was just thinking you & Mardee while wearing them biking here in Sweden, in 42F they were perfect! (No wind or rain proofing) but it was a dry day, they'd be useless in the rain.

Sandancisco--You are right, those pants I have are not good in the rain. When we are in Iceland though we always have rain pants at the ready. When we are in mainland Europe, I usually just make do with them unless it is raining really hard. I usually wear my JJill jeans and then have a pair of nicer JJill pants that go with everything and shed water pretty well.

mikliz97 & Mardee - A forum friend reminded me of the LINED Mountain Hardware pants. They've come out with new colors this autumn including black & dark mulberry, so I've just ordered a pair. KRS, me too. For fall trips, I stick to navy blue. On this current trip, I have 3 pair - the major difference being weight for the variable fall weather. I did bring one pair for variety and a bit of flair, which is navy with a flower pattern that coordinates with my tops.

In the spring, I went wild and substituted in a tan pair. In the Alps, I substituted in a black pair.

Wray and Lyndash, Haha, that term was not meant to be disparaging at all! I am very dated, and you wouldn't believe some of the words I use sometimes. But it gives my grandkids much fodder for amusement. 😊

Sandancisco, actually, the zipper doesn't bother me. I'm not actually crazy about zippers in pants in the front. I don't mind having them in the back, and it can be a good thing, but I like to be able to just slide my hands into my pockets from time to time. Having a zipper there is annoying. But let me know about how your tailor did! Speaking of alterations, I am going to have to hem those prAna pants—even after washing, they are still about an inch too long.

Thanks for the additional links for those two pairs of pants. I will check them out. By the way, after I bought the prAna pants, I showed them to my daughter, and she was very impressed. She said, "That's a really good brand." She's usually not very impressed by the clothes that I buy, lol!

I will say that those Eddie Bauer fleece-lined pants are really nice. In fact, I decided to go online and order a second pair in black, along with some socks, and a Gap sweater that was not sold in our local Costco and got great reviews. Because I ordered three items, I got $10 off. That was a nice little perk. I realized they were a bit pricier than the other store, so I may have just broken even, but I'm fine with that.

KRS, the only problem with me wearing black pants is I have some tops like to bring that would not match that well, and I get bored with just one color. I like to mix and match. It's hard to do when you pack light, but it makes it even harder if you just have black pants. But that's me.

Sandisco, Don’t misunderstand me, I would love pockets in EVERYTHING! However, if I changed my system to pants’ pockets of one style, I’d need all the same kind of pants and, as we all know, that’s not how women’s pants are designed, very unfortunately. I am a person of habit when traveling. My important items go in the same location all the time when I travel, so one pair of pants with pockets are useless for me when traveling. My system for the last few years has been adding an interior pocket to my mid-layer tops, because that is so easy to do, and carrying a small purse. When all pants finally have pockets, then that might be a different ballgame. As I said, habit, habit, habit for me.

Mardee, No disparagement taken. Language is just interesting. It’s often different even state to state. I grew up drinking from the bubbler and ordering cabinets at lunch counters.

And while typing my missive I realized if I’m talking about all styles< I use “pants” as I did above. But if I’m talking about dressier “pants” I’d use “slacks”, and “trousers” are just a certain style, IMO. As usual, I digressed…

And for travel jeans with zippers, I didn’t see anyone mention these Aviator jeans. I just wish I could try them on, but then I’d have to buy three pairs and, well, kind of expensive for something I can’t try on before purchasing. LOL. mardee--I found the pants, but they were too heavy for what I want. I did though find a nice gray sweater with black stripes that is very soft and it jumped into my cart. So it was not a wasted trip at all;)

Wray, oh, I like those jeans, but yeah, definitely pricey. I also don't like it when they don't have the inseam listed. It generally means they're all the same lenght and therefore will be too long for me.

mardee--The sweater is perfect for me. Lightweight, and the fit was just right, not too long etc. The feel of it is very nice too. I love my JJill jeans a they come in petites. The ones you saw me in were ankle petites, to give you an idea. Otherwise the regulars are way too long for me.

I thought of all of you biking today in windy 45F, it was TOO dang cold for those Amazon fleece lined leggings! Actually, it wasn't really the fault of the leggings, but the lack of a decent coat & wool gloves, once I added the right things, it was fine to wear them.

Sandacisco--We are headed to Vienna and Budapest. We are missing Andrea by one day in Vienna. You will love the sweater! I got a giggle out of the 45 degree weather and saying it is cold. My mom lived in Lafayette and was always cold. She would be bundled up while my brother and I would be in shorts for him and a casual dress for myself. Everyone is so different, and of course where you live and the weather you are used to.
