Gettransfer.com

Greetings travelers,

Its me again.... has anyone heard of used the GETTRANSFER website? It appears to be a bidding for business transfer service. Almost like Price line name your own price.
I completed the criteria for a transfer from Rome to Sorrento and had 8 companies who responded with bids. The lowest was a Mercedes van for $432. which I think is a great price. Pick up at hotel and drop off at hotel.

Thank you,

Lorie

I've never heard of them - then again, this is not something I would ever go looking for.

$432 to get from Rome to Sorrento? Yikes. "Great" is not a word I would use to describe that, but I guess we all have different tastes and travel styles. Personally, I'd take the train, and I'd think that $400 could be better spent elsewhere, but that's just me.

Vive la difference.

Lorie--

This is one of those rare instances that from Rome to Naples it is far simpler, quicker and less expensive by Freccia train than by private driver, or heaven forbid drive yourself.

If tickets are bought in advance through Trenitalia, it will cost in the vicinity of 25 Euro per person--I just checked for late August travel. Then once you arrive at Naples Centrale, the private driver with a van will be waiting for you to take you to your apartment. As I said in another thread, it will probably cost you 100 Euro or a little more for a van. Only other cost will be maybe 70 Euro to get you from your hotel in Rome to Roma Termini station.

But 295 Euro is tons better--and faster--than 432.

Ditto to what David and Jay said. $432 would not be a "great" price in my book either, even for 5 people. And it definitely won't be faster than high-speed train to Naples and driver or train from there.

What I recall of the composition of your group, the door to door service may be a 'good value', for your circumstance.

Probably not the cheapest possible method; with not having to transfer to/from different modes of transport, total time may not have any meaningful difference vs high speed train.

Never heard of GETTRANSFER, so cannot address that part of your question.

Why not use the most efficient/ cheapest way at least to get from Rome to Naples? That would be the train. If you're trying to recreate a parallel system that costs a lot more than an easy train ride, at least do it on the final, shortest trip segment (Naples to Sorrento). I can't imagine paying $432 to replicate what a train already does for the majority of the journey.

Also, what's wrong with the Marozzi bus that goes from Rome (Tributina station) directly to Sorrento? I think someone already suggested that as an option on an earlier thread:

Agnes, yep, that has been suggested several times, including this other thread this morning.

But as I noted in that thread, it wouldn't give me a search result for Aug 15th. That could be because - as Dario noted in the other thread you'd linked - Aug 15th is a holiday. Flixbus did appear to be running on that day, though. Yes, it takes 4+ hours but I'm not sure a driver from Rome would be significantly faster. I'm sure someone else has answer for that...

Still, a fast train can get from Rome to Naples in a little over hour.

Edting to add: so you've only asked about Rome>Sorrento. Where are you going after your stay in Sorrento? Just curious as often trippers heading south have to head north again to fly out of Rome. Or something.
