restaurant recommendations in Sorrento?

I will be there a Sunday - Friday. Do you have recommendations for eateries - all types?

In Sorrento, we liked Parrucchiano and loved, small, family owned, Chantecler's Trattoria. We stopped at Primavera a few times for gelato. I think you'd want/need a reservation for both restaurants.

Pretty much any restaurant, probably, in the Marina Grande (fishing marina). We really liked O Puledrone (went twice for lunch) and Taverna Azzura there, great fish dishes. Our favorite dinner was at Naima Restaurant and Lounge (Via Padre Reginaldo Giuliani, 45). Pizza was pretty good at Pizzeria Aurora and they had other food options and an extensive wine list (this was near our hotel, Antiche Mura). We also had pizza at Pizzeria da Franco, which I think is in the RS guidebook (and was also a stop on a food tour we did), also good but definitely a "pizza parlor" place.

My husband and i just returned from Sorrento where we were there for a week.

We really enjoyed:

  • La Cantinaccia del Popolo at Vico Terzo Rota, 6/8, 80067 Sorrento NA, Italy. It is a neighborhood Trattoria away from the tourist area, not too far from the train station. We ate there twice. They have amazing pasta, my favorite was the gnocchi with gorgonzola and walnuts with speck. We also enjoyed gnocchi Sorrento, eggplant Parmesan, and their lovely charcuterie platter. This place does not take reservations and there is a line, but it is worth the weight. The daughter, Mary, is the hostess.
  • ***Inn Bufalito* i**s a Steakhouse with an amazing Mozzarella Bar. It is in the downtown area. We went there for lunch and had mozzarella and pasta. Our server Fabio was fabulous and we enjoyed our time. We came back for dinner and Fabio helped us choose a wonderful steak dish paired with the local wines. It was a wonderful experience. This place does take reservations.
  • Spizzichi Amo is a neighborhood place (open for lunch and dinner) that serves vino and taleri. We went there for lunch one day and the owner Salvatore fixed the most amazing panni paired with delicious local wines. We went back prior to our train to Naples to pick up some lunch for the road. This is modest place near the train station with delicious and affordable sandwiches.

Since you are in Sorrento for a while, I would recommend taking the food tour by the Gourmet Girls Italy. They run the Taste of Sorrento and introduced us to La Cantinaccia and Spizzichi Amo along with a really fun local bar and pizzeria.

I just returned from Sorrento and I second the Bagni Delfino recommendation. Be sure to make a reservation since Sorrento had a lot of tourists. Not only did we have great food but we also had excellent service. We were celebrating our 35th anniversary so the manager gave us a oceanview table and bought us our first round of drinks. They grilled us a local sea bass which they filleted at the table in a wonderful presentation. The oysters were also wonderful.

One special meal that we had was through Aldolimos. They took us on a tour of the countryside on our way from Sorrento to Positano with stops at Ravello and Almafi. Some of the local wineries are creating weekend restaurants so we stopped at one and joined a family from Naples that was celebrating a first communion. The cook brought out the dishes while the son selected the wines. We had about 7 courses and it was amazing. Every dish delicious and the wines perfect. It cost us 80 euros a person and well worth it. Such a unique experience and a lot of fun. Ask the driver Allessandro to take you there since I can't remember the name of the village and place.
