Visiting Berlin 1st time... are there any Rick Steves Guides for 1 or 2 days of our 4 day visit?

We don't want to join a large group travel tour. We like to stay in smaller cities/villages. This will be our 4th and 6th visit to Germany and 1st time to Berlin. We're thinking about staying outside of city and using the train into the city for tours, museums, etc. We love the Roman (and all) history. Most of the rest of the 3 week trip is planned.

thank you in advance!

If you are flying into or out of BER - which is on the outskirts of Berlin - there are several hotels there which might be convenient for you.

I have previously stayed at the Meininger - which is walking distance from the Grünbergallee S-Bahn station - and then taken the S-Bahn to my in-city sightseeing destinations. The Loginn and Premier Inn hotels are close by as well.

The Schoeneberg S-Bahn station, even closer to the airport terminal, is also within walking distance of several hotels.

There is no real need to stay in outskirts for price reasons. Berlin has also some more silent hide-aways. Hotel "Das Stue" is a very good example.

Maybe stay in Potsdam?
I do not believe Berlin has any Roman history at all, but perhaps I am wrong? I don't think they were that far north. They were more on the Rhein in Cologne and Mainz, and the 500km Limes runs a bit north of Frankfurt and down to Bavaria.
