Hi everyone
We’ve been on lots of cycling holidays over the years, most recently with Headwater but have found them to be very expensive now and they have farmed out their trips to other companies and added on a premium.
So in early September we’ve found a Eurobike holiday - 8 days family route so short routes each day which we like but they say it’s run by Pedalo.com but that route isn’t advertised on their website. It’s from Trier to Cochem.
I’ve also seen a similar route advertised by Better by Mosel as well as Active on Holiday but don’t know anything about these companies and can’t find any reviews.
I’d love some feedback if anyone has used any of these companies or could recommend someone else for us. Many thanks
As you may know, last year Pedalo Touristik GmbH and Radreisefreunde GmbH merged, with Pedalo is the name of the combined firm. We've biked self-guided from Trier to Koblenz more than once and did so last year with this firm...it's reputable. Self-guided bike trips via various European firms can be booked through an American company, BikeTours.com (formerly Bike Tours Direct) for a slight service fee. Staff at BikeTours.com are great. Apparently, Americans are preferring more upscale accommodations and the related higher prices. Not all offered trips via Pedalo are listed on the BikeTours.com website, so visit Pedalo's website and and if you see a trip you like, such as Trier to Koblenz, then note the details and then contact staff at BikeTours.com, as staff are more than accommodating to book trips, including those not otherwise listed on their website.
Haven’t used them, but we likewise had quite a search for a self-guided Mosel River cycle trip this coming September.
We decided to use Velo Voyageur. We used this company, which specializes in France, two years ago. We don’t know how the Mosel in Germany will work but here are some links that may help you.
First, my query on this Forum last fall, suggestions I received and my report back on additional possible vendors I found on-line. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/rhine-and-beyond-itinerary-ideas Many of the suggestions that others gave me as well as my report back) include links to vendors and links to other, prior posts on this forum.
Second, Velo Voyageur. https://www.levelovoyageur.com/en/ For their Mosel tour, see https://www.levelovoyageur.com/fr/allemagne-a-velo/la-moselle-a-velo-de-treves-a-coblence_s141
Third, my report on our experience with them two years ago in France. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/fabulous-tour-de-france-2-weeks-on-foot-and-by-train-2-weeks-by-e-bike
Hope there is something of use - particularly in the first link - for you and your planning.
LATE NOTE. Just read your post again. Since you’ve not yet decided, look into Velo Voyaguer since you can find lots of on line reviews of them. Velo Voyageur generally offers two levels of accommodations. Also, they will work with you if you want to revise their program.
My frustration with many alternative vendors was the lack of reviews, which left me in a quandary. And Bruce has given you a review on one alternative.
I’ve also had a good experience with Le Velo Voyageur though my trip was in France.
Thanks everyone. Currently waiting to hear from Pedalo as it seems crazy to book with other companies who book with someone else and they book with someone else. Too many opportunities for mistakes to be made.
You do know you can do this without being part of a tour? Check out the Bikeline books.
I have not biked this route, but I drive it, or portions of it, monthly. Now that the weather is warming up the bike lanes are getting much more use. The bike lanes along the Mosel are as wide as a separate lane of traffic, paved, smooth, and in many places run on both sides of the river. They are (mostly) fenced off from vehicle traffic. Biking this past of the river is very popular, and there are campgrounds all the way along the river from Trier to Koblenz, as well as the usual hotels and Gasthaus.
