Thanks Ed!

I have not been having a good day today, so my escape is travel and I went back several years (got to page 27) on trip reports. Ed made me laugh for the first time in days with his comment that Tweezers and Clippers got 14 comments! Thanks Ed!
It was a posting about chips on CC’s

And who can forget the one about Ed running through CDG in a Speedo?

I miss Ed too. Wish he would join us again.
He was the humorous breeze of fresh air that blew though this forum, keeping it from becoming a dry desert on occasion.

Never a place, activity, accommodation nor mode of transport in all 195 countries did he not experience. Surely, the most interesting tourist, er, traveler the Travel Forum ever brushed up against and with seemingly countless fanboys and fangirls even to date.

Just to let you know, he’s alive and well. He just decided one day that he was moving on. Our loss, but his gain in time to do other things.

I loved Ed. He was like the Dos Equis man - super witty, sharp, and (seemingly) "The Most Interesting Man in the World"
"Whatever side of the tracks he’s currently on is the right side, even if he crosses the tracks he’ll still be on the right side"
"He can speak Russian… in French"
"He never says something tastes like chicken.. not even chicken"
"He once had an awkward moment, just to see how it feels"
"His beard alone has experienced more than a lesser man’s entire body"

That's Ed for you...Let's raise a toast to Ed, wherever he may be!

Well, I'll raise a glass. Some of the best advice I have received here came from Ed. Admittedly his comments could be a bit off putting at times, but almost always with humorous intent. And even though some may have taken exception to his attitude and character, I don't remember him ever deliberately insulting or denigrating an OP (or other poster). Often his blatant honesty was a breath of fresh air although a bit blustery.

Aw, c’mon, you guys ... join in the toasting. Ed was wonderfully refreshing, honest to a fault, knowledgeable, impolite at times but never subtle or sneaky about it as some posters are. I learned from him and he corrected me from time to time, to my benefit. As the saying goes, he did not suffer fools gladly and all praise tohim for that. Why should he?

I'll raise a glass.

I enjoyed hanging out with him.... and then he moved on.

I'm not too proud to say I learned quite a bit from him and really enjoyed his company.

I'm sad that although we kept up a correspondence for some time after he stopped writing on the Helpline one day he stopped replying to my correspondence too.

If he's ok I raise my glass.

If he's not, I doff my hat.

Bets,

If you should ever have contact with Ed in future, please extend best wishes for 2018 and pass on that his presence on the forum is missed by many.
