Recommendations for Luxembourg

My wife and I will be taking a Rhine/Moselle river cruise from Amsterdam to Luxembourg late June to early July. We'll likely stay in Luxembourg City for an extra day or two.

Anyone have any recommendations for hotels, restaurants and best sites to see?

Did you check the Luxemburg tourist website / app?
Seems to be really complete for your questions when nobody would answer.

There's an app for that? And what? I just go to luxembourg.com? (doesn't seem to work for me)

I stayed at the Park Inn by Radisson Luxembourg City and was pleased. We enjoyed walking the old town and ramparts. I also found the American Cemetery very well done and quite moving.

In addition to the American cemetery we enjoyed the National Museum of Military History (MNHM) Asbl in Diekirch. Its main focus is the Battle of the Bulge.

We stayed at the Hotel Simoncini "In the city center, located on the edge of the pedestrian area, our hotel is next to an underground parking where car parking spaces can be booked (request when booking). Its strategic position offers easy access, as well as a modern and friendly environment." Small, modern styled rooms (I think we may have had a small fridge) which are not my first choice; however, it was very convenient to the large plaza, pedestrian area, restaurants, shops, tourism office, and the gov offices for my family to reclaim citizenship.

Our adult kids rode bikes, and walked all over the city. Public transit was free. We hopped on the light rail to another part of the city for a vegan restaurant. Enjoyed our 2 day stay.

We were in Luxembourg this past spring. We only spent one night in Luxembourg City, we spent more of our time in the country side. There is a fair amount of info on this forum on Luxembourg if you use the search bar. Unfortunately, it is a bit harder, because info will be under general Europe or Germany or France, for people that did a combined post. Here's a couple:

Incidentally, we just returned from a lovely trip to New Zealand. My husband made the comment that the NZ countryside was the 2nd prettiest of all the countries we visited. He felt the the Luxembourg countryside was the most beautiful.

Visit the Casemates, Palace and cathedral. A walk around town. I really liked the the Grund area - there's a good brasserie just across the Grund bridge.

If you have time for a day trip, make it Vianden.

I also stayed at the Hotel Simoncini but it was nearly eight years ago. I liked it. Great location.

Paul and Melissa, IMO Luxembourg City has one of the best physical tourist information offices in Europe. Much very helpful information, itineraries, tours, private guides. I would feel perfectly fine just showing up there on my first day and saying "we've got today and tomorrow, what should we do."

I didn't eat nice restaurant food in Luxembourg City, but there's a lot of it. The place is full of corporate guest workers/expats from all over the world (many English speaking) - a lot of people in that city with some money to spend looking for the good life in their downtime. Point being you're not going to strike out even without a lot of specific recommendations.

If you are touring on foot, be prepared for a work-out as the city-state is built on hills.

All public transportation in Luxembourg is free. Trains, buses, etc.
