Passport expiration timeline

Hi all - don't know exactly what forum to post this on...but will try this. Just booked (or am in the process of booking) flights into London and out of Brussels (using miles) for next fall of 2015. Our passports don't expire until December 2016, so I'm assuming we will be fine for London (and Paris and Amsterdam and Brussels). Tried googling but can't exactly find specific info or links to tell me for sure.

In the past, your passport had to expire at least more than six months beyond your stay in the UK (and I assume the EU as well). Just can't find any information as to whether or not that information has changed. We're in the process of applying for Global Entry and didn't want to have to change passports right after application/interview.

Thanks so much.

Try the State Department page, but I am pretty sure it's still six months.

If you're going to be there in fall of 2015 and passports don't expire until Dec 2016, that is a whole year after your visit. I know of no place that requires passports to have a whole year left before expiration.

The Schengen Zone has a three month expiration rule. For many years now the UK has no expiration rule, your passport simply needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in the UK. So your current passport is good to go.

I checked into this before our recent trip to the UK as my husband's passport expired less than four months after our trip. Based on my research, the in the UK the passport has to be valid for the length of stay.

Here's the link to my question on same topic.

Also, you can update your paasport info on your global entry profile when you ultimately replace your passport.

To clarify my earlier posting, I think the State Department suggests renewal within six months of expiration date, you can travel with your passport until it expires (depending on the country/ies you are traveling in).
