Italy in October - Shoes for walking

We will be on our first RS tour in October. Do any other women out there have any recommendations for good shoes - shoes that look good and feel good? I've been frantically shopping via Zappos without success! Thank you.

I would suggest any of the Clark's Unstructured. I had to have surgery on the arch of my foot (OUCH) and they were just the best shoes ever for walking around Rome.

I hope this helps.

If you haven't seen it already, check under the 'tips' section -- there are MANY posts with suggestions. But the BEST walking shoe is ... the one that feels good on YOUR foot.
Happy travel !

Before this turns into another long post about finding women's shoes may I suggest that you check under Trip Reports as there is an entire category dedicated to shoe suggestions.

My number one suggestion is to wear the shoe at home first, a lot, walk in the woods with it, or anywhere there is uneven terrain, and i mean a place you have to walk on rocks, and roots, etc. Circulating for an hour or so in the mall is not going to do it. I believe that the number one issue is walking a lot on the uneven terrain of cobble stones taxes many muscles in your feet, ankles and legs that you simply do not use back at home and even with a real comfortable shoe you will still hurt.

Yes, there is an entire section devoted to shoes. That said, I like Merrell and recently Ahnu. Both can be purchased from Zappos. Happy travels and shoe shopping.

Choose the most comfortable, supportive shoe you can for walking and standing all day on hard, uneven stone pavements. I like my Teva sandals and various sporty models (not full hiking boots) by Merrell, and have also worn a pair of Clarks over several years. The brand alone doesn't tell you everything; each brand offers a variety of styles and levels of padding or technology.
