EES to enter Europe starting in November

Hi all. I just read that the EES system to enter Europe (Schengen zone) will begin in November of this year. From what I understand, anyone from outside the zone will have to be electronically fingerprinted upon entrance, although it seems the system will move pretty quickly. It seems they're doing this to assure the 90/180 days rule is followed and it will replace having your passport stamped.

I get the feeling this won't be such a big deal, but this forum is my go to spot for accurate information, so I figured I'd better post something in case someone has better, more accurate information. I've got a few trips coming up (and always want more!) so want to be prepared.

Thanks!

I don't know where you read that it was for November of this year, but as of today, the ETIAS (or EES) is not scheduled until summer 2025 at the earliest.

That being said, the European Commission has not confirmed this and has only stated:

"The Commission does not comment on speculation."

ETIAS and EES are two different things. Although there is confusion over the exact date EES will or should be starting in November, planned as a minimum 6 month 'soft' start before the ETIAS also comes in, sometime in 2025.

JoLui, I think you are confusing ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) with EES (Entry/Exit System). They are not the same. You can read about both of them on the website you linked to. At the top, you will see a tab for ETIAS and one for EES.

Oh sorry! I'm completely lost! :))

Since the OP said "to enter Europe" and from what I understand, ETIAS is the system for non-EU citizens who do not need a European visa to obtain a travel authorization to enter the EU. And the EES is a system for controlling border crossings by third-country nationals.
