In light of the new administration’s actions of the apparent abandoning of Ukraine and siding with Russia despite the protests of our historic European allies, will American tourists be less welcome in Europe?
I think this is the fourth topic on this in as many days, poor webmaster!
Who can say? Europe is a large and diverse place. Be polite, be courteous, learn some of the language, and you should be alright
will American tourists be less welcome in Europe?
Probalby not. But I think you are the first to have thought to ask the question on the aRS forum (today).
My planned trip to Kyiv in June (second this year) will be impacted more by what that other country does than what my country does. I have no doubt how i will be received.
The country I live in is pretty eavenly divided on the US subject (the city less so). The adjoining countries might be a little more not happy than happy but not as much not happy as I suspect you believe.
We’re sticking with our planned trip to Poland in May. I believe that we’ll be welcomed as visitors, as the tourist numbers there might be decreasing under the circumstances. We’ve been asked about situations in America by some locals in Ireland and Italy the past two years, and if it provides a chance to talk now with Poles, that wouldn’t be bad. But we’ll gauge things while we’re there.
As has been alluded to, yours is not the only thread on this subject in the last few months. Certainly the opinion of the current US administration by those living on countries that until now had considered themselves allies and international partners has taken a marked turn, and not for the better. However, most of those same people to not extend those same feelings onto the citizens of the US. Leave the red hats and slogan t shirts at home, be respectful and courteous visitors, and keep your political opinions to yourself, and you should be just fine.
Honestly, I doubt it will come up (at least in western Europe). In the UK, we've got enough of our own problems these days.
This topic has been discussed extensively, so to keep the conversation on track, I am locking this thread. Here are two recent discussions you can refer to for more insights:
