Wales with the family

We are a couple in our 70's with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons, 11 and 13. Planning on being in North Wales the beginning of June probably 5-6 nights. I am thinking of staying near Conwy because of what I have read here but i found a house in Rhos on Sea also. The main question is travel times and is Rhos on Sea adding to that? We will see Conwy, Llandudo, part of the Anglelesy area, one or two castles, Snowdonia and Betws -y-Coed? I think we will have plenty to do but I don't want to be in the car all the time, especially since some people have said the driving times can be longer due to narrow winding roads. Am I over thinking?
I would appreciate any ideas
Thanks
Judy

It doesn't make any material difference to stay in Rhos. You are only about 3 miles away from Conwy, and from Rhos are pretty much straight onto the A55 expressway.
When going west of Conwy the A55 bypasses Conwy via the road tunnel under the estuary. The tunnel probably evens out the time difference as opposed to staying in Conwy.

If going to Bodnant garden say you are talking literally a minute or two either way- probably Rhos is that fraction faster than Conwy. Rhos is actually closer to Llandudno than Conwy if you go along the coast.
Rhos is effectively part of Colwyn Bay, another of the North Wales Victorian seaside resorts, and you have the Welsh Mountain Zoo on your doorstep- one of the less known attractions in the area (at least on here).

You aren't over-thinking, but have a look at google maps and see it's close proximity to Conwy, and the local road layout.

If you do stay in Rhos on Sea there’s the small 6 seat St. Trillo chapel and Holy well on Marine Drive at Rhos Point. It’s on the water side of the road and hard to see from the road. It’s worth a short visit.

On our last Wale trips we stayed in Caernarfon. We spent one day on Anglesey and visited Beaumaris castle, the town with the real long name (Llanfair…gogogoch), South Stack lighthouse, Llynon lighthouse, some standing stones and a burial chamber. We had visited Conwy castle on a previous trip.

Rhos is lovely - lots of cafes and independent shops, right on the promenade (which has been recently refurbished and is glorious with a vast sandy beach), and as for transport links you are VERY close to Conwy and Llandudno on the coast yet still not far from the mountains (eg. Betws-y-Coed is probably only about 30 minutes away).

Rhos is well served by buses too so you can use them to get to Llandudno but otherwise you will need the car, but nowhere is too far really in North Wales with the exception of the far reaches of Eryri | Snowdonia eg. Caernarfon, and Anglesey (still day-trippable!).

If you have to choose a base then Rhos really is quite a good one - it is a lovely place!

Thanks for all the ideas. I booked the house in Rhos on Sea. I checked travel times and you are right about that. We are really excited about this trip - new destinations are always great. I have really appreciated comments that I have received on this forum, so once again, thanks for all the imput.

Be sure to visit Bodnant Gardens. The famous laburnum tunnel is in flower during the first week of June.
