Wales excursion, June, 2017

We drove to Wales on our self-guided England tour. We drove through Snowdonia to Beaumaris, checked in to Bishops Gate B and B on Angelesey Island and planned our only full day in Wales. After breakfast the next morning, we headed straight to Conwy Castle for the morning. It is very well-preserved with great views of the town and its walls. We ate lunch at Bodnant Gardens just south of there, both are Welsh National Trust sites. (Buying the pass is worthwhile if you're going to 3 or more sites) It is an incredible preserve. We hustled back down the coast to Caernarfon Castle for an hour before it closed. Then we drove to the west end of Angelesy Island to see the cliffs and lighthouse, there was a nice little eatery there also. We drove around and watched the ferry leaving for Dublin before returning to our room. ( Exhausted) The next morning we toured Beaumaris Castle, which was just 3 blocks from our room, then saw Penrhyn Castle (not as old but worthwhile) on our way out of town. In hindsight, we would have liked to spend 3 days minimum in the area but since Wales wasn't part of our original plan, we felt like we got a nice snapshot. You could do an excursion from Dublin to the area or visa versa, probably would have if we'd had more time. Rick's videos and guides really helped us navigate England and Wales, don't be afraid to get a car and just explore, you'll have an adventure and lifelong memories. We dropped our rental car off in London and did six days there by bus, tube and boat.
