Visiting Cardiff Wales -

I will be in Cardiff for 2 ½ days and 3 nights. One of the sites I'm interested is the Rhondda Heritage Park (Coal Mine). My first question is the tour worth the time and cost. Second I understand that if you do not have an automobile you can walk or take the bus/train. I will be staying in the Hotel Clanton on Saint Mary Street; any suggestions on going to and from Rhondda Park?

What is the weather like this time of the year and any suggestions on clothes to pach.

Thank you
Ken

You don't say when you're going.

If you’re looking for current weather (October) go to any weather site and type Cardiff. Looks like the highs will be in the upper 50s with a daily chance of rain for the next 10 days or so. The lows vary between 40 and 50.

In September, we experienced clouds, rain, and sunshine--all within minutes of each other! Be prepared for anything.

Your hotel is right by the station - this is the quickest way to get to Trehafod, albeit you will have a 5-10 minute walk to the park at the end. I've never been, probably because Big Pit offers a similar experience and is free but I'm not sure that's particularly easy by public transport. Depends what your interests are as to whether it is worth it since there are other popular attractions nearby that are free. The open air museum at St Fagans is free and well worth a visit, and if you like impressionist art there is a fantastic collection in the Nation museum of Wales which is again free and never crowded (closed Mondays). Both of these are in or on the outskirts of Cardiff.

Always expect rain in Wales!

We didn't do the coal mine, but enjoyed Cardiff, Cardiff Castle and nearby Caerphilly Castle. Also, St. Fagan's Museum of Welsh Life.
