If you put in a Sunday date in mid March you'll see the £30.50 each fare.
If the 1228 from Bath was late into Newport (or was cancelled) your ticket is automatically valid on the next train (a bit under 2 hours later from Newport), likewise if the Newport to Conwy train was cancelled you just take that next train.
You don't have to do anything if that happens.
It's a 16 minute connection at Newport- so you've got plenty of time to switch platforms. There are elevators to go up and over the bridge between platforms. If it's looking tight ask the train manager on the train from Bath to ring ahead, and they may even hold the other train, as you won't be the only one making that connection, especially given the 2 hour wait.
You'll still be into Conwy before 8pm.
If you were that late the delay repay system would give you a 100% refund so the journey would be free!
All the train managers have I Pads so can easily check that your connection was missed through the national train running data if they ask. In truth most of them aren't going to bother if you're on a later train.
Just buy tickets from either the Great Western or the Transport for Wales website.
As there are two of you, if you do the Railcard thing, buy a Two Together Railcard- one card for the two of you at £30, rather than a Senior Railcard at £30 each. It can be bought digitally before you arrive. On this journey alone that saves the two of you a combined £20.40. If you're doing another journey like London to Bath or Conwy to London/where-ever you are into savings.
