My wife and I will be traveling in Wales without car rental, and I am wondering if it is possible to hire a car and driver to take us from Aberystwyth to Llandudno on Thursday, June 25? I have looked into possible train connections, but they seem to be quite roundabout and complex. Thank you in advance, -Jack.
I think the word you are loking for is "taxi" (or tacsi in welsh!), although for a journey that far out of town you would be better off with "private hire" rates. Just start typing taxis and Aberystwyth into Yellow Pages https://www.yell.com/ But it won't be cheap, even by the reasonably direct route it's almost 90 miles and at least 5 hours driving for the round trip (which you will have to pay for), I'm thinking this could be £100 or more.
The train option is roundabout, mostly due to the mountains in the middle but not complex, you get on a train to Shrewsbury, there you get on to another train to Llandudno Junction and what you do there depends on exactly where you need to be. Fares around £30 each if booked now.
The other option is mostly by Trawscymru bus https://traws.cymru/en you take route T22 as far as the stop they call
Tan-y-Bwlch (Oakeley Arms) then a T22 for the short hop to Blaenau Ffestiniog and the a train to Llandudno (which also calls at the Junction and Deganwy in case they are better for where you need to be). The maximum price of the bus rides would be £7 each (the day pass price) but ask the driver because it could be cheaper for just the two rides. The train fares is £10.70 each. You may have enough transfer time for coffee/lunch at the Oakeley Arms.
There is another, slower option which is even cheaper! If you take the T2 all the way to Bangor (it's a long ride!!) and then train to Llandudno and book now it would be less than £10 each, you need a rail ticket routed "Via Bangor inc Bus Leg" - but I'm not sure this is for you!
The T2 bus ride will be quite scenic, as any day now Lloyds Coaches (the operator) are about to introduce brand new double decker buses to the route.
The £7 day rover is the cheapest way to buy the fare from Aberystwyth to Blaenau Ffestiniog, but for anyone who happens to have a railcard the bus fares on the T2 (not the T22) when bought as a train ticket get the usual 33% reduction.
So if you were just going from Aberystwyth to Bangor the bus fare is £4 for the 4 hour + journey when bought as a train ticket or £2.65 with a national railcard.
Note that there are only 6 trains a day from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno- https://tfw.wales/sites/default/files/2026-04/9_Llandudno-Blaenau-Ffestiniog_May-2026_V1.pdf
