On a Wednesday (July 5) we are driving from Newtown to Chester where we will drop off a rental car (at the station) at 10-11 AM window and catch a train at 12:52 PM. It looks like a trip calculator says it will take 1 hour and 25 mins.. How much time should we allow to drive from Newtown to Chester? Thank you in advance.

That sounds fine.
My sister lived at Churchstoke ,so often did that route.
A side trip to Montgomery,which is a lovely little place can be recommended

I agree! Montgomery is very charming. We stayed one night there last summer at the Dragon Hotel. There is a lovely walk right uphill from the hotel. I passed some lovely gardens, sheep, and lo and behold...some castle ruins that we had no idea were there. Unfortunately, we were rushed for time, so didn't even get to walk up very far, and had to leave before the castle opened. Beautiful little village! My mom and I will be back in Wales in mid-July. We're staying one night in Newtown just so we can drop by Montgomery again. Guess this is off subject for your question, but thought I'd throw it in. Hope you have a lovely time!
