Ludlow?

We are planning a trip to Wales on April 22-25. We start and end in London and need to return to London by 3 pm on the 25th.
One member of my party has heard that Ludlow "is filled with beautiful shops and great restaurants" and wants to make this a stop on our trip. I can't figure out how to make that work if we are planning on seeing the North for most of the trip.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Assuming you are driving, head to North Wales on April 22nd. On 24th, head south to Ludlow and spend the night there, travlling on to London next morning. (Depending where you need to be in London, allow around four hours for this.)

Our plan was to take the train from London to North Wales on Apr 22. We intended to pick up a rental car but realized that isn't possible on Saturday afternoon or Sunday.

Perhaps we should train to a certain point and then rent a car on the 22nd?

First stop on the train is Crewe, and next stop is Chester. But everyone seems to have closing at noon on Saturday.

Hi. Thanks so much. Looks like Crewe might be a good solution. We can get there by 11 am on the 22nd.

Ludlow has a handsome historic center. When I decided to spend a night there in 2017, I was surprised at the room rates. After I arrived I learned it had become a foodie destination; just my luck I was there on a weekend. You may well need restaurant reservations.

We spent one night there on the way from Caernarfon to Stratford Upon Avon. We enjoyed our minimal time walking around the town. En route we stopped to see Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and walk around Shrewsbury.

Ludlow is a lovely town.

In the middle of Shropshire, a beautiful rural county. But I see you posted in Wales - just to be sure that you know you will be in England.

A branch of my mother's family came from Tenbury Wells not far away.

Enjoy Ludlow and Shropshire.

Although Ludlow has plenty of historic buildings, given the time you have, I don't think it is worth the detour. I don’t think it is crammed with beautiful shops and restaurants either. I think your time would be much better spent in Chester - where you also might like to check out car hire and return and use the direct trains from/to London (Euston).

Try and see Bodnant Gardens whilst in the Conwy / Llandudno area. Be sure to drive into the Snowdonia National Park via Bettws-Y-Coed > Capel Curig > Llanberis Pass / Beddgelert. Visit Portmeirion (Near Porthmadog) if time.

Im a bit late to the party here , but if you stop in Ludlow be sure to spend some time at St Laurence Church . Some of the most beautiful carved misericords you will ever see . Also interred in the churchyard are the remains of the poet , A.E. Housman , best known for his cycle " A Shropshire Lad " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Laurence%27s_Church,_Ludlow Also , a bit of trivia - the AGA cooker , arguably the Rolls Royce of cooking ovens is manufactured in Ludlow since 1947 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGA_cooker
