Hay-on-Wye

Wondering if anyone has stayed at a great B&B there and besides all the bookshops ( main attraction for me) are there other interesting shops and good pubs or restaurants to enjoy ?
I would be there for one or two days later in October.

While my wife and I went for the books and market day, we also made a point to visit Off Grid Gourmet:

We cannot recommend the experience highly enough. It is still one of the best meals and evenings we've had in Europe. If you have the budget and a rental car, you should definitely consider it. Cheers, and safe travels!

Thanks direheroics , no rental car as I’m from Canada and still fearful of over side of the road driving . I’ll have to miss the gourmet experience but glad you recommend Hay-On-Wye . Did you stay at a B&B right in the town ?

Sorry about the delay; lots of work travel.

We stayed in town at the Swan at Hay Hotel. We rented a car in Bath and spent a week driving around Wales before dropping the car off in Liverpool. We find the freedom of movement offsets any hassle of driving on the opposite side of the road (after awhile, it becomes second nature like anything else - although the roundabouts are challenging).

I wish you the best on your trip, and hopefully like us, a fully empty travel bag to bring home all your finds!

The Old Black Lion looks like a great B & B and Pub downstairs. We had booked there, but had to change dates and it wasn't available. We ended up booking the Swan also, but plan to eat at the Old Black Lion.
