We arrived in Haverfordwest and were hoping to go to St. David’s or Pembroke Castle today. Unfortunately after spending hours looking for bus options, it would seem that going almost anyway on a Sunday is impossible. Perhaps someone else would have been luckier in figuring this out.
If we are to be confined to Haverfordwest today, any suggestions on how to spend the day, after the rain subsides?
Any advice?
If you move very fast the 1116 train to Tenby, change Carmarthen, then later to Pembroke- £11.20 return
Or the 1134 T5 bus to Fishguard or Cardigan, two hourly.
Thanks very much!
What website did you use?
The Northern rail website for trains, bustimes.co.uk for buses.
The latter for speed, I could have looked at Richards brothers or Pembrokeshire council or Traveline Cymru.
I looked at Pembrokeshire Council among others but it seemed nothing ran today, except for long distance.
The train to Pembroke was 2 hours because of the route but actually only 11 miles from here.
I wonder if Uber is an option and if that might work better for a direct option?
I doubt Uber works in West Wales, but may be wrong.
A quick Google gives 5 taxi companies in the town, one of which, Rocky's is at the train station. I assume, but can't remember (it's been too long) they have an actual office there.
St David's Cathedral is open from 1pm to 3pm today, with Choral Evensong at 4pm. Maybe pre arrange for a taxi to pick you back up at say 5pm.
Maybe it helped with the buses that I knew what to expect to find.
I find this site to be pretty good for finding buses:> https://bustimes.org/map#10.02/51.7905/-4.8341
I hope you enjoyed your afternoon. I have had photos this afternoon from someone walking the Pembrokeshire coast path, at Pembroke, showing extensive blue sky. Not that the scenery was the point of the pictures, it was material for the IWM.
We did catch the bus to Fishguard but found out Sunday is a tricky travel day with few buses annywhere and they are less frequent. The sun did finally come out and we walked up to the old fort ruins and had a treat at a bakery by the harbour.
Otherwise the town shuts down on a Sunday!
