Driving from Cardiff to Conwy

We are doing Wilderness Travel’s trip “Hiking the Cotswold Way & Wales”. The Wales part of the trip is mostly the south part. The trip ends in Cardiff. We are renting a car at the airport & driving to Conwy where we will spend 4 nights.
Is there a suggested route for someone who’s never driven on left side of the road? Suggestions for things to see along the way?
We will have 2 full days in Conwy. Suggestions for those two days?
On day 4, we will drive to Birmingham to spend the night close to the airport. Suggested route? Things to see along the way?
Thanks for your help!

The A470 will take all the way from Cardiff to Conwy going through lovely scenery for the most part. One junction where you might go wrong is when heading east from Brecon towards Hereford - be sure to look for the sharp turn left on that section. Also note that when leaving Cardiff Airport - that you don’t drive back into Cardiff but reach the M4 at J33* and proceed on M4 east to next junction (32) and then head N on A470. It is a full day of driving up the A470 to Conwy. * Do not let a satnav take you to J34 as that will take you down some very narrow country lanes via Pendoylan village.

Suggest that you could stop on the A470 route to take a look (& have a wee) at the Brecon Beacons National Park Mountain Centre. To do this, when descending from the BB - turn hard left in the village of Libanus and follow back road for about 2 miles.

Do you intend to have a stop over place to stay when going from Cardiff Airport to Conwy?

Conwy is great fun - a medieval walled town with a ruined castle. You could easily spend the day there as there is also Plas Mawr, an Elizabethan Town house that is well worth visiting too. Walk across the old suspension bridge for views of the castle. You can also do a cruise on the river.

LLandudno is a Victorian seaside town with pier and traditional Punch and Judy show. Take the Victorian tram to the top of the Great Orme where there are the Bronze Age Copper mines (with a trip down into the bronze age workings).

Quite close is Bodnant Garden which again is worth visiting. Tie this in a visit to Betwys y Coed. If you like ruined castles, there is also Dolwyddelan, 20 minute drive along the Blaenau Ffestiniog road. Unlike Conwy which was built by Edward I, this was built by the Welsh and is very different. Make this a circular trip coming back via Capel Curiog , Llanberis (National Slate Museum is very good) and then Conwy.

There is alsio Anglesey ....

Postcard and a Pint on Youtube is a great travel show by people who live in Northern Wales. I second Bodnant Gardens. They are so lovely. I also really liked Llandudno. It was super pretty. If you pass by Crickhowell stop. Super cute and friendly town. Also Bristol is a great town.
