Bethws-y-coed/Beddgelert or Keswick England?

Here is the itinerary that we're think of after flying from the US

London for two nights, then take the train to crewe station where we'll rent a car. From there we'll head to Betws-y-coed or Beddgelert for 3 nights. We'll stop to visit Bodnant Gardens on our drive to Keswick in the Lake District of northern England, where we'll stay for 3 nights. We'll then head to Lawers Scotland for 5 nights, before sending out final 2 nights in Edinburgh.

My question is: Is adding in Betws-y-coed and Beddgelert too much when we could just take a three hour train ride out of London right up to Keswick?

We did a variation on this, this past June. After London and Bath, we rented a car and drove to Conwy for three nights. I think it is well worth going to North Wales. We visited Bodnant Gardens, Conwy Castle, Caernarfon Castle, did the train up Mt. Snowdonia, and drove over to Angelsey Island to see Beaumaris Castle. There is much more to be seen there, but we don't try to cram too much into any one day.
From there we went to York for 2 nights, then to Keswick for another 2 nights, then 9 nights in Scotland.
Edward I's castles in North Wales are worth the detour IMHO.
