Best Time for Cheapest Flights: Oregon to Wales

My wife and I are planning a 20th Wedding Anniversary trip to Wales and Scotland in early August 2020, and upon watching the flights, they seem to be creeping up in price the closer we get to our travel dates. Do any of you have any tips and ideas on when the best time is to purchase our flights and the best way to do it? We're planning to fly:

Portland, Oregon to Cardiff, Wales Aug. 1 and 2
Edinburgh, Scotland to Portland, Oregon Aug. 9 ( and 10 if needed)

Any help you can provide would be super fantastic, as this will be our first overseas trip ever!

You might try buying the long haul tickets
Portland to London separate from the other UK flights

Do you actually want to be in Cardiff or somewhere else in Wales?
Depending on the answer to above, the best option could be any London airport and then train, or if heading for North Wales, fly to Manchester and then train.

There is some good news----and some not-so-good news. You can fly non-stop from PDX to LHR (Heathrow) August 1st on British Airways for $310 (basic economy) or $375 (economy standard) and $250 if you can fly basic economy on August 2nd.
From there - you're on your own to Wales - but that part can't be too difficult. Remember the "not-so-good news"? Flying British Airwys back home to PDX will run you $868 (basic economy) on August 9th or 10th.
