I will be in Wales ( mostly North Wales)
for the month of October. Ten days I’ll be on the beach so think I’ll need rain gear and wellies. I’m unsure of type of coat/jacket otherwise . I’ll be visiting family and looking around towns and a bit in Cardiff as well. I’d appreciate informed advice.
Think layers. You will definitely need a waterproof jacket - preferably a breathable one and may be waterproof trousers too. You may also need hat, gloves and a scarf, depending on how susceptible you are to cold... You may be lucky and get warm sunshine. Alternatively it could be cold and damp with a significant wind chill factor.
Footwear will rather depend what you are planning to do on the beach. If just walking on sand when the tide is out you can probably get away with a pair of sturdy shoes. (Remember sea water will stain leather if you get the shoues very wet.) I dislike wearing wellies, so avoid if at all possible! You won't want to wear them when walking around tows etc.
Thank you so much wasleys for your detailed, sensible reply !
Wales in October It's cold, damp and can be grey..it's also beautiful, enchanting and a quiet secret jewel...
Wellies are a pain and uncomfortable too.
I’d go for a pair of Goretex walking shoes (although to be fair I already possess a couple of pairs and they’re my standard footwear for outdoorsing.)
I like to wear a longish light waterproof coat - say, knee length. I have a very thin lightweight puffa coat that packs into a small backpack.
