I planned a trip to Istanbul for 10 days in early May. I'm getting conflicting feedback as to whether this is a good time for US citizens to be there. Also, people have mentioned a concern about jet fuel availability. Any feedback/advice out there? Many thanks!
Here's an ongoing forum thread about the situation in Türkiye: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/turkey/turkey-and-current-security-issues And another thread about possible jet fuel shortages: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/possible-jet-fuel-shortages
Not being an American I can't comment specifically on sentiment towards US citizens, but I have found people Istanbul to be very friendly and welcoming. Also, it's a big city with lots of tourists.
I was last there in Feb and am keen to go back - I'm sure you'll have a great time.
The real danger in Türkiye is the potential of aggression by Israel in the coming months.
