I planned a trip to Istanbul for 10 days in early May. I'm getting conflicting feedback as to whether this is a good time for US citizens to be there. Also, people have mentioned a concern about jet fuel availability. Any feedback/advice out there? Many thanks!
Not being an American I can't comment specifically on sentiment towards US citizens, but I have found people Istanbul to be very friendly and welcoming. Also, it's a big city with lots of tourists.
I was last there in Feb and am keen to go back - I'm sure you'll have a great time.
I was there with my wife/daughter and friends (with college aged children) last June/July when the U.S. was bombing Iran for the first time and we found nothing but friendly and hospitable people in Istanbul, Ephesus, and Fethiye. Of course, the jet fuel availability was not an issue last year, so I guess keep an eye out for that.
Have fun. Turkey/Istanbul is amazing.
