Double Decker Airplane Seats

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/chaise-longue-double-level-airplane-seat-returns/index.html

I don't like the idea. You lose the overhead bins and carry-on luggage space. I think there is only enough space for personal item under the seats. For the upper seats, there is no way to stretch out your legs, unless there is a foot cutout in the partition. But then you will be kicking the head rest of person below or maybe be caught in a leg hold trap if the bottom person does a reclining lurch.

And I see lawsuits written all over the design. People on the bottom are going to be hit in the head by falling laptops or other items by top passenger trying to climb in or out of their upper seats. Or they may get splashed by hot coffee or tea being passed over to the upper window(?) seat passenger. And I am guessing flight attendents will suffer more repetitive work related injuries having to shoulder press food trays to the upper level.

The coffin-like lower seats will have the upper person's butt just about a foot from your face. The following article says you probably won't be bothered by farts, "unless it is especially forceful". What about projectile vomiting or explosive diarrhea? And if fold up seats are a good idea for accessibility, there is no reason not to install them in the current sewting plan (other than the additional cost plus extra maintenance for moving parts).

What about the added weight? Isn’t that a touted concern for luggage and keeping within weight larmetwrs for the aircraft?
Ho-ho. I reckon hat all goes out the window when more passengers = more money involved.
Strange how these safety things evolve.

I love the idea of more leg room on the lower level, but the upper level? I would imagine that there would be a cost adjustment as to which you choose. My greatest concern is what an emergency evacuation look like should that need arise.

It looks like getting into the upper seats will require gymnastic skills, or a 5.10 climbing maneuver that Sir Edmond Hillary would’ve found challenging. And getting down? At least as challenging.

If you slip and sprain or break something … forget about jet lag, what about jet leg ?!?

So what happens to the people in the lower level when the folks above are all reclined and someone in the lower level needs to get out to use the bathroom? If you're on the aisle you could probably roll out, but the middle?

And what if all the regular seating is booked, the lower level is booked and someone is physically unable to climb to the upper level?

I like the fold-up seats though. Would make it easier in just regular seating to get in and out.

None of us reading this will live long enough to have to worry about it

Designing a plane with enough exits to evacuate everyone in 90 seconds, will keep this "April 1st" project busy for a LONG time

If it ever does end up in an airplane, my bet is it will be the next generation from China
