Does Norwegian Air Shuttle weigh food and a bottle of water that one may carry on board the flight?

My wife and I will fly on Norwegian Air Shuttle next month from Oakland to Paris CDG on a “LowFare” ticket, returning several weeks later—Paris CDG to Oakland. We are very well aware of the carry-on baggage weight and size requirements, as found on the Norwegian web site, which state that the carry-on bag and the “small personal item” have a maximum combined weight of 10 kg. What we have not seen discussed is whether or not a bottle of water or any food that a passenger may wish to carry on the flight separately is also weighed and included in the 10 kg limit. Therefore, it would be helpful to know if you have flown on Norwegian and have carried food and water on board, that was not in the carry-on or personal item, whether these were weighed and included in the 10 kg limit. Also, any tips for flying Norwegian from Oakland or CDG?

Thank you,
Steve

Nope that is not weighed. Carry that in a plastic cheap grocery bag . They are not that nitpicky. I have experienced two flights with Norwegian both London to Chicago in the last 6 months. Since I did not buy the airline meal I went to the convenience store pass security and bought water and a salad there. I lot cheaper and fresher than airline food. Not sure what Oakland airport has. Also you can order stuff on board from a touch screen a la carte.

If you have never been to CDG you should get there 3 hours before the flight no matter what airline

I have travelled Norwegian in Europe and they insisted that I didn’t carry a separate bag with food and drink - it all had to fit into the allowed baggage, but on that occasion, the bag wasn’t weighed. I have been on flights where bag size and weight is checked.

The bottle is the heavy part. Put it in a pocket. I have never seen or heard about any airline weighing the passengers clothes (or the passengers themselves).

Upon the completion of your trip, I would appreciate your posting the experiences you had with Norwegian.
There seems to be some conflicting and confusing reports regarding the issues you discussed plus (and it isn't my wish to frighten you) rumors of delays/cancellations/problems resulting from engine issues. This was reported in late spring.
I have flown Norwegian many times....Oakland to Barcelona, LAX to CDG, Oslo to LAX, Madrid to Gatwick, etc. - I like them, although I wish they would expand their service to my home airport (PDX).
Because I am tall, I opt for the seat selection/checked baggage/meals upgrade, which usually adds around $100 to the flight - financially unwise but deemed necessary (by me).
I hope you have a wonderful experience being there and getting there (and back).

Norwegian will weigh your luggage at the check in counter but not at the gate.
Since you can't carry water through security you will need to have either an empty bottle that you can fill after or you will buy a bottle of water from the stores, also after security.
I've flown Norwegian on 2 round trips so far (with another coming up this October.) They have always weighed my carry-on bag but so far, never my personal item. (I also travel with a cPap which they have never weighed and hasn't caused any issues here or returning from Europe except for some additional security screening.)
On my first flight with them, the start of a 7 week trip, my bag was very close to the limit. I carried my 3-1-1 bag and my iPad mini in my jacket pockets. Luckily they don't weigh the passengers ... ;-)
I think that you will be fine.
And have a wonderful time. I love Paris and can't wait for October!

Thank you all for your responses, thus far. As Blue439 suggests, there seems to be a wide range of experience regarding Norwegian’s practices in weighing carry-on bags, and food and drink. We will be prepared to stash some of the heaviest things in our pockets, if necessary.

I have a follow-up question: I have read many people say, on this and other forums, that it is difficult to get ordinary tap water to drink on Norwegian’s flights—that it may be offered just once or twice during an entire long haul flight. What has been your experience regarding getting water and staying hydrated?

Thank you,
Steve

All you have to do out of Oakland is stop at the last store selling water. Get the largest one you can buy and take that on board with you. Have done that every time I have flown (4 times now). I just put in the back of the seat in front of me. Lasts me all flight. They only check your weight when you are checking in (before you even go through security). Have brought along my own food (as have other people), and the bag just must fit under the seat before and during takeoff.

I flew Norwegian this June, OAK-CDG and return CDG-OAK. They did not weigh my carry on bag or my large purse in either direction.
90% of the people boarding had 3-4 good sized bags/backpacks each and no one said a word to them going or returning.
My experience w NA is they are very lenient.
I understand from others that NA is more strict within Europe, not as much for international flights. Bigger planes.

This thread might be helpful.
And this one.

just buy a bottle of water before you board or buy one from them if you get desperate on board those are your options,
they do not walk around with a pitcher like the higher priced legacy airlines; they only offer the water if you have paid to have the meal service
