Part of an agreement to secure a government loan is that Air Canada refunds tickets kn flights cancelled due to covid. Initially vouchers were offered, which was useless for many.

Will be interesting if an agreement with WestJet is imminent. If I recall from past articles, WestJet was taking a different approach with negotiations and instead of a bailout wanted see some kind of a commitment to an overall recovery plan for the airline industry.
Thank you for posting this! I am sure I'll never again see a RT Los Angeles to Paris fare for 260.00, but happy to get a refund, and grateful I don't have to try and work out another trip within date confines. Thanks again!!
I am happy to report that I just receive the refund from Air Canada today. I put in the request on April 16, 2021, and it takes almost a month for Air Canada to process. If I can get the other refund from the travel company then it would be great.
Thanks for the update. Did you get any communication from them between the time you applied and your refund? I just got a 'we are assessing your request' kind if email.
Hi Maria,
I did not have any communication with Air Canada during the processing period. They sent me a refund receipt about 25 days after the first email, then the next day another email to confirm the refund has been processed. The refund was on my credit card the same day. I hope you will receive yours soon. I won't do any travelling this year, maybe next year.
Trang,
Thanks Trang. I was a few weeks behind you so will keep waiting. No rush. Travel hope for 2021 got me through some crazy times in a healthcare working environment, but I am resigning myself to no for 2021 if it means things will open for Jan 2022 and my retirement plans of snowbirding somewhere in the world other than Ottawa.
Adding my question here as i couldn't figure out how to start a new thread. I am trying to get a refund from Air Canada for a 2 way ticket where one half was used and the other got cancelled due to CoVid. I don't expect an exact 50% refund from the original amount i paid, but it would be helpful as a consumer to know what the breakdown is. I am going through the refund process and we are only getting back less than 20% of the original ticket price. It is also possible that the intermediate travel agent is taking a cut. we just don't know. Any info will be helpful. Thank you.
Ask the 3rd party for the calculation of the refund.
Happily, I finally got my full Air Canada refund on May 31, over a year after I was supposed to travel. It did take about 6 weeks from the time I put in my claim.
I am still waiting. Guess I better delve into it again.
