A Tale of Two flights-- Entry at Rome/FCO

I didn’t have one! I flew into Rome on 9/23/26 and landed about 10:30am. I was not connecting with another flight. I had prepared myself for a lengthy wait at passport control. However, they were not using EES then, just passport scanning and facial recognition. Took me less than 10 minutes!

But the passport control lines were the worse I’ve ever seen. Very long and very disorganized. I travel with a wheelchair and usually get escorted to an agent in less than 30 minutes. This time took 2 hours

So the answer to the question "How long does it take ...?" is 'your guess is as good as any other'

I'll reply again on Monday to let you know my experience. We arrive at FCO at 1pm.

Luck of the draw but on Sept 21, landing after noon, from the gate to the car (including baggage claim) was slightly under an hour for us. I don’t recall getting through only passport control that quickly -ever.
