Spoiler alert: I didn’t have one! I flew into Rome on 9/23/26 and landed about 10:30am. I was not connecting with another flight. I had prepared myself for a lengthy wait at passport control. However, they were not using EES then, just passport scanning and facial recognition. Took me less than 10 minutes! Then I was on my way via train to Naples.
Came back to Rome for a few days and flew out on 10/2/26 for a 1:00pm flight. Got to the airport 3.5 hours before flight time. Passport control took about 20 minutes. Again no EES with fingerprints, just the same scanning and facial recognition. Lots of people in line, but there were airport staff monitoring the lines and there were several e-gates open. I couldn’t believe my luck! Just wanted to share a positive experience.
