Those posts with fake phone numbers for airlines

There seems to a rash of these every now and then, although I haven’t seen any in the past week or two. I am sure most forum members know not to use them, but this Fodors article about them and how the scammers operate is worth a read.

Botom line: when you call your airline for help with a booking, make sure you have the correct number. The scammers have a way of manipulating the Google search results to make the fake numbers look genuine.

There may be an issue with Fodors’ website right now. I can’t access it on either Chrome or Safari, says the server is not responding.

Why would you not have your airline(s) phone numbers programmed on your phone?

Why would you have to 'google it' and get led to a fake number ?

joe32F makes a very good point. Part of our preperation for any trip is having important numbers for phone, reservations, credit card companies, and just about everything in our phones. And we have a paper back up just in case. It doesn't take that long to do, and it's right at hand if needed.

I just had a scam phone number with a cruise line reservation. The reservation was paid for but they said we owed a $400 embarkation fee. Fortunately we have cruised many times and knew it shouldn’t be owed. We called our reservation agent to check on this fee. She checked with the cruise company and told us this money wasn’t due. Somehow I picked up a scam number on the internet and wrote it down. Live and learn! If it doesn’t feel right, double check with your travel agent or recheck the access number for the airline, cruise lines or other travel services. I felt SO stupid after planning trips all over the world.
