Another escalator trick but this one is without suitcases: try to pick your pocket on a down escalator and pass off the goods to a partner standing behind. Two young ladies from Eastern Europe attempted it on my husband whose hands were full of bags of books in a Nice mall. Didn't work. He caught her and saw her accomplice.
