Just wanted to share this to hopefully ease some of the worries at Termini in Rome. Will it help? Who knows...but they are trying something to protect from the pickpocketers and the fake train porters. The barricades could slow things a little I guess...
Thank you for sharing! This is really good news!
Most excellent. And not before time.
I'll be there for 5 days in Sept, so we'll see if the barricades make things more difficult...
One must have a ticket to enter the platforms in Spain. The AVE requires bags to be scanned (no where near airport level security). All due to the Atocha bombings. But neither is an impediment to boarding your train, unless you are racing to catch it at the last moment.
Making the platforms ticket-only should all but eliminate the train porter scam.
If they implement the same policy at other stations in Italy (especially Milano Centrale), that will also eliminate the teenagers that leave small cards on the seats prior to the train departure. It will be interesting to see how well this new system works.
