My husband recently received a WhatsApp message indicating that he had to confirm his credit card or his reservation at the hotel he had booked would be canceled. ( This was for a hotel in Slovenia.) The message had his full name and the correct reservation dates, but the number attached to the hotel was in the US. The website he was directed to looked like a best western site on the surface, but other links on the site didn’t work.
This is a new scam that people should be aware of of. Chatter on Facebook and Reddit seems to indicate a data breach at Best Western.
If you receive a message indicating that your credit card needs to be confirmed, you should contact the hotel directly to verify.
