Who knew? I didn't! The things you learn while shopping in the covered market in Budapest! I have the Currency Plus app on my phone, but a random shopper pointed out that the calculator on your iPhone can do conversions. When connected to the internet, exchange rates are real-time; it stores the rate, so if you are not connected, it still works (so not up-to-the-minute accurate, but likely close enough). It also converts measurements.
I knew about the money but never scrolled over to the left. Wow, thanks for pointing this out. The temperature conversions will be used a lot!
Wow, I honestly didn’t know the iPhone calculator could do that too that’s actually super useful for traveling.
Thank you so much, Rebecca! I am heading to Hungary & Czech Republic soon, so I will be using this option! : ). I bought some of each currency ahead of time - just easier for me, and the denomination amounts sound so rich until I calculate the equivalent in US dollars - LOL!
I have the Units Plus app. It has options to convert currency as well as various measurements, speed, temp, time, etc. I find myself using it a lot. I didn't realize the iphone calculator could do currency conversion which is good to know if I'm doing some kind of calculations and then need to convert. Thanks for the tip!
Do you know which rate the iPhone uses? I have the xe.com app on my phone. I just compared the 2. There was a slight difference. No problem if you're getting a gelato. But if you are looking at a major purchase . . . xe.com uses mid-market rates.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I have had an iPhone for years and didn't know about this until 5 minutes ago!
@Chani - I think it uses Yahoo Finance, and it will tell you when the rate was last updated - generally every few hours if connected, is my understanding. The conversion apps are likely more accurate if you need that level of specificity.
Here's a previous discussion
@jeanm - oh, I missed that! I even searched and only saw posts from 15 years ago about using "charts" lol
Mardee is always on top of this kind of thing!
Great tip! Thanks!
