Windows 10 help

I just bought a new 2-in-1 tablet computer to take with me on my travels. It's running windows 10. So far, not impressed.

One thing I can't find is a way to "safely remove hardware" like in previous versions of Windows. There is nothing in the tray, I click on the up arrow and there is nothing, nor is there anything for "hidden icons."

Anyone know where I can find this? I hate unplugging my phone and ebook reader without it.

Thanks.

Go to "my pc" in file explorer, right click the icon for the device you want to disconnect, and select "eject ".

Michael, that would be too easy. Unfortunately, there is no "eject" or anything synonymous.

Just double checked my PC. The eject option appears if I have a thimb drive attached, but it doesn't appear with my iPhone attached. So I gurss the option only appears with certain thingys. All smartphones these days are designed around owners constantly plugging them in and out all day, so ejecting isn't really critical for them.

I tried plugging in a storage device and the "safely remove hardware icon"--the flash drive--showed up.

So, I guess some devices just don't need it anymore.

Thanks all for your help.

To safely remove hardware, put on a helmet, safety goggles, elbow and knee pads, and jump up and down on offending machine. Or throw it against the wall.

Not required for most things now. Windows is trying to get as smart as the Mac when it comes to things like this.

"Windows is trying to get as smart as the Mac"

Actually Macs still want you to eject storage devices before you unplug. There's a little eject icon next to the drive in the finder.

Huh, I've never "ejected" a flash drive on any device or operating system. Just pull it out and go on my way. Who knew?
