Where to purchase cheap cell phones in Rome, Italy

Hello,
I've looked at many of your posts re: mobile phones in Italy and they have been quite helpful. My big question is where does one purchase a mobile phone over there? Where do I go to find a store that sells these phones? ARe there any at FCO?
Thanks for your help.

I don't know when you are traveling, but try Eurobuzz.com to buy a cell phone to use in all Europe for a great price. I got one to take on our trip in July.

If you arrive in terminal 1 at FCO there is a TIM store and a Vodafone store, I believe. There is a TIM store at the Termini train station, and probably other stores as well.

I purchased a nice little phone online with Telestial, about 10 years ago. I used it for several years and then upgraded in 2012. I went to the TIM store on via del Corso next to the Piazza Colonna. They were very helpful there and most of the agents spoke English.

You will need your passport to purchase a phone, either from Telestial, or from one of the stores in Rome.

Another option is to purchase an UNLOCKED GSM phone at home prior to traveling and just purchase local SIM cards in country. Just ensure the phone is a Quad band (or 900/1800 Mhz) phone or it won’t work.

I prefer to have my own smart phone, an iPhone 4S, while traveling. That way, I have all my apps and data preloaded and I’m ready to pop in a local SIM for network coverage.
