Thanks VAP. Last trip I used Verizon’s $100 monthly plan. It worked great but was a pain to set up. I couldn’t find the link; first person I talked to didn’t set it up after she said she did; second person finally got it right. Lesson learned: always check your account when you set up a calling plan and call if you don’t see a notice and get an email and/or text.

We recently used the monthly plan and were able to activate it through our online VZ account - when we last did it in Spring 2023, that was nearly impossible to do online and we had to call, and there were issues, we had to call back, etc. This time it worked like a charm, you just have to remember to turn back on the daily travel pass scheme as your normal setting.

Thanks for the info. I’m happy to see the monthly plan is still $100 as that is the plan I use.

I’ve always been able to sign up on-line. It takes 2 minutes. Sign in to my account, select add a plan, and enter my travel dates. I select for the plan to terminate after the month and I don’t have to do anything when I return home.

I am a senior and find it difficult to read text and maps on my iPhone screen, especially when outside. It is impossible if the sun is shining, even in a shaded location. My preference is for paper maps. I download the maps to my phone before leaving the US and have occasionally used them, but my paper maps are easier for me. I traveled this year to Mexico, Puglia Italy, and Paris. Next month London. I link to wifi in my hotel room and wherever it is available when needed... such as at the airport when departing back to the US.
I left my phone on airplane mode the entire time throughout my trips this year so I never used data. I read and sent texts and email messages from my hotel room with complimentary wifi at my hotel. I did not access GPS. I am retired and do not need to conduct business when away. My service provider uses Verizon towers so I assume my travel pass rates have changed as well. Mexico & Canada were $5/day and Europe $10/day.
I do have daily pass set up on my mobile account in case I need to turn airplane mode off to access data. But I have not needed it so far in my travels away from home this year.
Some of my friends and family did not know that you can keep your phone on airplane mode (avoid data use/charges) and still access wifi

I just did some poking around and realized Verizon now has an "Unlimited Ultimate" plan that comes with international data, talk and text. We currently have the old "DoMore" plan that accrues one free international day per month. We have a family plan with eight lines so our monthly cost for DoMore is $49/month and Ultimate would only be $52. You might want to check your incremental cost for the new plan rather than doing the daily or monthly plans, if you're traveling enough to pay $100+ per pop.

Edited to add: I just found another thread on this from April (closed now) so I guess I'm late to the party, but still good info for anyone else who is fashionably late.
