We've never needed an app for that sort of thing, and don't travel abroad with our phones (yet). I make an email document with addresses, phone numbers, dates, flight numbers, etc and just keep it on my itouch/husbands ipad. I also email that document to family so that they know where we'll be and where to reach us if absolutely necessary.

Otherwise, casual communication we have with people back in the states is strictly email.

Read the fine print of the app. Once looked at a travel app and discovered that they owned all the material (information) once I put it in the app. Of course, they are going to mined it for advertising data. That is the whole purpose. Since then I have stayed away from all travel apps BUT I can only speak about the one I looked at. The others may not have the same business objective. I simply use a combination of excel and a word document.

I stumbled upon the app Trip-It two years ago through a free trial offer. I used it for our trip to France and Spain. I loved it so much that I continue to use it to this day for both business and personal travel. I have also done what others have done (and still do) by emailing myself the itinerary and excel to plan out my trip.

Another app is Trip Case. I've used it on 5 trips and it is great for organizing all the pertinent info. After you get an email confirm of your flight, hotel or whatever, just email it to them and most of the time it'll be entered automatically. Sometimes it won't and you'll have to enter it manually. Also check the auto entries because occasionally it'll pick up the wrong info from the email; then just edit it and enter the correct info. Another handy app to keep track of your expenses is Trip Splitter Lite. You can enter items by category and it automatically records the location where you incurred the expense. Trip Case can be accessed on all your devices as well as the web because it syncs across all platforms. Trip Splitter can be used only on the device on which it is installed.

I also use TripIt, forwarding confirmation emails to the app for automated entry. It's handy to have it all in one place, and when I make changes it automatically updates on my husband's phone as well. And the most recent version is available off-line when there's no WiFi connection.
Have used an Excel spreadsheet, which is better for tracking total estimated costs during the planning stages; after the fact I see the actual costs using Quicken downloads of credit cards and ATM withdrawals, with each trip coded separately.

Tripit was the app I looked at. Read the fine print of the usage agreement. You don't own the content once it is up loaded.

I've used TripIt Pro for years, and it just keeps getting better. Both the paid and free version do a fantastic job of organizing my transportation and hotel info, and I like that I can just forward the confirmation/itinerary emails and the information is in most cases pulled in without much effort on my part. I find it helpful to be getting notifications about my flights. I'm personally not overly concerned with who "owns" the information, since I back it all up. If I wanted real privacy I would have to give up my smartphone, Facebook, Google, and a lot of other conveniences.

I also make up my own "info sheets" containing all the flight, travel and lodging info, phone numbers, schedule, etc. I use Microsoft Word, and save the pages in my Dropbox. In case my phone doesn't have internet, I make it available offline before I leave the US.

Another vote for Tripit. The app has limited data inputs but the web based version has several additional fields. These show up in the app once you've updated it.
It does a great job organizing by dates.

I accidentally folded my iPhone in half in my Aunts hide-a-bed. Tripit had all the info online and I used my Aunts computer to download my flight info. Saved by the back-up!

I use Excel for trip planning such as itineraries and costs. I also use Excel to create a paper hotel itinerary I can put in the outer compartment of my luggage.

I also keep copies of everything as PDFs on my phone using GoodReader.

I also use FlightTrack Pro for flight updates. It synchronizes with Tripit. It will give me arrival times, gate change info, delays etc. I think Tripit Pro might do that too.

Trip case is okay, but I travel a lot and find it burdensome to load details in. I just keep my travel reservations/details on Dropbox (a cloud based file drive) and make sure it's available offline. Have done this for years to good effect.

TripIt has been the go-to travel organizer for many years now however, I used Google Trips last year and I enjoyed it's usefulness. It accesses your emails then organizes everything automatically based upon destination. Being able to see your destinations on a local map while also being able to view where restaurant and bar recommendation was a huge help.

IF you're traveling in a group or, plan on meeting others Travefy allows everyone's itineraries to be collated together so there's visibility.

Prava is another app that like Trevefy, helps organize itineraries but, you can also message each other as well.

Yet another vote for Tripit. I have the Pro version and like the way it keeps track of my flights, gate changes and departure/arrival times, etc. The app version for my phone has a more condensed version, easily read and accessed. I've been using the apps for several years and have no complaints.
