I would love to hear of any Travel Insurance companies you've had a great experience with (especially when making a claim), and what are the companies we should avoid? There are 4 of us traveling to Australia. Thanks for your feedback!
We've always had great service with Travel Insured. Last year we had to make a claim when there was an air strike in Italy. Last minute train tickets, hotel, and checking out early from a rental, they covered everything. Also used them on another trip when the group got altitude sickness and they covered the cost of the rental when we had to leave. Great to work with.
Have had a couple of claims with TravelGuard for medical costs and have no complaints. They did require documentation, but not an excessive amount. Had a check within a couple of weeks.
You might want to considere evacuation coverage. Most travel policies include some, but read the fine print. Many will only evac you to the nearest facility that can treat you. Some will bring you home. The devil is always in the details.
MedJet Assist is evac insurance only -- no medical. They have a variety of plans so you might want to check them out.
If you have USAA, they offer a GREAT discount on Travel Insured (we've had to file 2 claims with them and were very pleased). You can get it on your own without going with USAA if you don't have USAA.
I also hear good things about Allianz.
What kind of insurance coverage are you seeking? Check your credit cards that you used to pay for this trip. The CC companies may offer some coverage already.
We have had excellent claim experiences with Travel Guard. They were large claims in the $20,000 range. We received 100% of our claims within a month’s time. Highly recommend Travel Guard.
