Does anyone know of an app that translates Portuguese offline? Google translate only has the Brazil version for offline use which isn't the same. Rick mentions DeepL which also can't be used offline. TIA.
Microsoft Translate has both the Brazilian and Portugal Portuguese available for download to use offline.
By a huge margin the vast majority of the world's Portugese speakers are Brasilian and there are loads of Brasilians traveling working and living in Portugal. The dialects are much less divergent than those of various Spanish and French-speaking nations, plus there isn't the linguistic snobbery one frequently observes with those. Just remember not to call someone "bobo" im Portugal (it means fool, whereas in Brasil it means silly) and you'll be fine. Plus, 99% of Portugese under 50 speak very decent English and are happy to practise it with a native-speaker. At least 50% of Portugese over 50 speak French as well, which is how I communicated with them and with the many Uber drivers who hail from N. Africa...but they too speak English.
I like Yandex Translate. It also works in many languages. If you download a language it works offline. It has Portugese.
Thanks everyne. I will try the apps that you suggested.
Diane,
You may get some ideas on the best offline translators from this website - https://www.livelingo.io/guides/translator-app-that-works-offline .
I've used Google Translate a number of times in the past and it works reasonably well. I've found that Apple Translate seems to be the default app chosen when live translation is in use.
Good luck!
