We are planning a trip to the burgundy region of France and thinking about planning our days. Can you recommend an app for finding public toilets in small towns or along the road?
I have not used it but there is an app called "Flush" that can help you find public bathrooms near your location on a map.
I am visiting Barcelona in October and the toilet question was asked.
The Flush app was recommended.
They might also know at your lodging. And maybe visitor information
I would assume that all restaurants have toilets as well as museums and other attractions.
I've used the Flush app and found it very helpful. It has good reviews, too. I know it's available on Apple - not sure about Android. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flush-toilet-finder-map/id955254528
I have used Google maps to find toilets.
FWIW I did some research on this recently for London and there were quite a few resources. And in some places Starbucks has agreed to become a defacto WC for the masses; they will also refill water bottles for free.
My sister has anxiety about toilet availability and so we had high hopes for the often recommended Flush app. We tried Flush in London last month and we were not happy with it. It would often tell us we had arrived at a toilet and we had no clue where it was or we still had to walk a block or two to find it. It ended up creating more anxiety. Also, it kept asking if I wanted to upgrade to the paid version. Maybe that version works better.
We've always considered stopping for a drink to be our toilet tax. Coffee (espresso) is quick but a glass of wine is more fun.

I understand if one has health issues that necessitate a quick option, but honestly, in 20 some years of travel in Europe, I really do not recall availability to be an issue, or even resorting to using pay toilets. (well, rarely) If we are out for the day, after a couple hours, we also usually stop for a coffee, beer, wine, or other drink/snack, and take advantage of the toilet. Also never pass up a chance at a museum, department store, or other large venue.
For the UK there is also this website- https://www.toiletmap.org.uk/
As with any data set it depends on what is input.
The input comes from many and varied sources and it is a constantly moving target as premises open and close, particularly for Community Toilet Schemes (such as Kendal in the Lake District).
I was updating the facilities at Castle Douglas and Dumfries yesterday (when there are on other business), and quite frequently do so when I am somewhere for other reasons. Dumfries Station is a case in point on how absolutes are not possible- the toilets are officially meant to be open to 6.30pm but the duty clerk went off duty at just after 4pm so the toilets closed early.
In fact writing this has just prompted me to add a previously unrecorded toilet in one of the major supermarkets in Dumfries, close to the station (which would solve the station early closing issue). Likewise just added one at Castle Douglas- in the town supermarket
here in the US it became nearly impossible to find a public loo during the pandemic, nowadays I look for a large supermarket or a Target
