Hate to add yet another one, but am flying to Germany to an event that requires a phone. I have gone round and round with tmobile, and their answer is if its not a Tmobile phone, we cant promise it will work on our network.
Anyone else have an unlocked phone, and had success or failure? I will be in Dortmund
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions
Exactly what kind of phone is it? Type, make/model?
Whether your phone will work in Germany or not has nothing at all to do with T-Mobile and all to do with what kind of phone you have. Not every phone that works with T-Mobile in the US will work in Germany, but most modern smart phones will work.
If your phone will work in Germany, with any carrier, then it will work with the T-Mobile international roaming plan if you have T-Mobile already.
This pertains to "postpaid" service too - perhaps not to pre-paid plans.
I had a contract with ATT and my phone was unlocked. On two trips I signed up for T-Mobile just for my trips. Never had a problem. Every time I crossed a frontier, I’d get a particular welcome text for the country I entered.
Yes, my phone is Moto (rola) and originally on AT&T, but I ported it over to T-Mobil as soon as the contract expired. Haven't looked back and it worked spiffingly in 4 European countries, Germany one of them.
Without knowing the model of your phone, it's hard to give a solid answer.
That being said, if your phone is reasonably late model and works for ya on US networks, with your T-Mobile SIM, you should be ok using it in Europe. While there are some frequency differences with the networks and such, and you can delve deeper in to your phone's specs and built-in compatibility with your IMEI, so long as you have a phone that works for ya with T-Mobile here it'd like work for ya while roaming abroad (which wouldn't occur on any T-Mobile network, but on T-Mobile's local partner networks).
First, THANK YOU for the replies so far. In answer to the questions about my make and model. It is a Samsung Galaxy S8
Which version of the S8? Is it the factory unlocked version? Or did you get it from another carrier?
Are you currently a T-Mobile customer? If not, who are you with?
Is your phone unlocked? ( Did you get it from your carrier or somewhere else?
I have used T-Mobile in Europe-- including Germany--with no problems for over three years.
Factory unlocked... purchased at Best Buy
If you are now on T-Mobil, you should be good to go.
We love TMobile. Wouldn't go back to Verizon if you paid me. The service has been excellent and you can easily reach a Team Of Experts via text or call
I had an issue unlocking my phone and their Executive team helped me.
